Merchants Rest, set in the heart of the historic town of Dartmouth, is a stylish first floor apartment housed within one of the country's most important Grade I listed buildings. Lovingly restored to retain many original features, including a stunning Charles I plaster ceiling with cherubs and intricate mouldings, this beautifully finished apartment melds old with new cleverly, offering modern living and comfort, yet with all the character of this former 17th Century Merchant's House.

Internally, the property has a large open plan living, kitchen and dining area with stunning original mullion windows that span the length of the living room. These cast natural light onto the intricate plaster work, the original fireplace and the chic, high gloss fitted kitchen creating a light and airy feel. Unusually for Dartmouth, the apartment even has its own secure garage just 250 metres away, which is suitable for one car.

Dartmouth is a pretty town perched on the River Dart offering a wealth of charm and character. The town is full of cobbled streets, stylish boutique shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants serving high quality local produce and sea food in particular.

Dartmouth is ideally located for exploring the neighbouring towns and beaches of Torquay, Brixham, Salcombe and the wider South Hams. There is so much to do locally ranging from steam trips on trains and boats to visits to zoos and museums, or you could just take it easy and enjoy the spectacular natural beauty right on your doorstep.

Please note Merchants Rest forms part of a historic building that features original spiral staircases. Due to the steepness and narrow tread width these may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

The Devon region

The warm climate and award-winning beaches enjoyed by South Devon have kept it a fashionable holiday resort for many generations. Torquay, Paignton and Brixham make up Torbay, one of the most popular areas for holidays in South Devon, and the area also includes the coastal towns of Dawlish, Teignmouth and Starcross. South Devon holiday cottages position their guests in some of the country's prettiest locations for a break with a continental feel. South Devon hosts dozens of festivals and regattas throughout the whole year. One of the world's oldest shipwrecks was found off South Devon's coast. Pete Goss built his Team Phillips catamaran in Totnes.

Dartmouth

The South West Coastal Path winds round the rugged coast from Torbay, down the steep streets of Kingswear, across the ferry and through the heart of Dartmouth into the picturesque countryside and impressive coastline of the South Hams. These elegant yachting towns, situated on either side of the River Dart, provide the perfect base for exploring on land or on water, with the open sea a short sail up the estuary and the tranquil charms of the River Dart in the other direction.

The streets of Dartmouth are busy throughout the year with tourists and locals enjoying café society and excellent shopping. Quiet Kingswear provides the perfect base for those seeking peace and quiet with the convenience of Dartmouth only five minutes across the water.
