Longbow Barns is self catering holiday accommodation situated next to the Britannia Royal Naval College and just a short walk downhill to the River Dart and Dartmouth Town.
Designed to give the maximum freedom for our guests to relax and enjoy their holiday, our ground floor apartment is suitable for children of all ages. The sitting room french windows open out onto a patio and a large garden area which has a pagoda type gazebo, (bbq, sun beds and garden furniture in season) and views of Kingswear over the River Dart estuary and out to the sea.
The accommodation has three bedrooms each with tv/dvd. Comprising two double bedrooms and a twin, all three have their own bathrooms, one of which is en suite.
The kitchen diner is a good size and a social space, the heart of the apartment. It is fully equipped and has seating for up to eight/ten people comfortably. It leads into the sitting room on one level, making the layout easier for guests with limited mobility. The cosy sitting room has three settees, a coffee table and flat screen tv/dvd.
A gently sloping lawned area leads to a pond with a child safety grid and a bridge over. There is always a lot of frog spawn in season, and assorted wildlife at other times to fascinate children! The enclosed garden is pretty, with shrubs and trees, but is not "precious",so children can run around without fear of damaging anything.
The barn has a wifi connection and there is plenty of room for off road parking on the forecourt.
Longbow Barns also has an Upper apartment sleeping up to four people in two en suite bedrooms, details of which can be seen on our Longbow Barns Upper Apartment advert number 223089.
These apartments can be rented separately or combined to sleep up to ten people, ideal for family groups and friends get-togethers. Details can be seen on our Longbow Barns, Whole Barn advert number 269570.

With its proximity to the South West Coastal Path, Dartmouth is ideally placed for walkers.
From Longbow,a good introduction to the town itself is to leave the barn and take the route through Mount Boone, down the winding paths through the old picturesque cottages into town near the Old Market, and walk through Dartmouth to Bayards Cove and the Dartmouth Arms; then on to Warfleet, along the coastal track road to the Castle from where a short walk through a wooded area will take you down to the rocks and the water's edge.
To the north of Longbow there is the historic town of Totnes. Get there by a twenty minute drive or a wonderful ferry trip up the River Dart passing Agatha Christie's Greenway on the way. Greenway house and garden is open to all during the season. Active guests have walked to Greenway from Longbow too, but a dedicated ferry is the option of choice for most!
The wilderness of Dartmoor is a forty minute drive but worth it. Winding roads along streams and gullies. Woods and rolling downs steeped in history. Choose a sunny day.
The nearest beach is beautiful Blackpool Sands with it's shop and award winning Venus Cafe and licenced restaurant; just a ten minute drive from Longbow Barns. Further on are three miles of Slapton Sands (shingle) and Slapton Ley nature reserve. Beyond the Ley and through small villages, there lies the ancient town of Kingsbridge and a few miles to the east is the yachting town of Salcombe with it's nearby sandy beaches . Further on, beautiful Bantham and Bigbury-On-Sea with their stunning beaches.
Or just sit back on the Dartmouth Town Embankment with fish and chips or an ice cream and watch the boats and ferries go by. Children of all ages love crabbing off the embankment. No-one fails to catch!

The Devon region
Dartmouth is located in the area known as The South Hams, Devon and enjoys a temperate climate due to the near proximity of The Gulf Stream. Steeped in maritime history such as Bayards Cove where the Pilgrim Fathers embarked upon the Mayflower on their journey to the New World in 1620.
Dartmouth has been a fishing port for centuries and an important Royal Naval base since the Elizabethan times when explorers such as Raleigh, Drake, Hawley, Davis and Gilbert opened up the trade routes and remains to this day a bustling port with commercial and leisure vessels of all shapes and sizes coming and going.
With Dartmoor to the North and the sparkling coastline in the South to explore, and all the towns and villages to visit, its no wonder that visitors return to Dartmouth time and time again
In Dartmouth town you will find wonderful restaurants to dine in and sample the local food including the catch of the day or enjoy the atmospere of the local inns.
Shopping along the narrow streets of Dartmouth is a joy and all this is at the mouth of the picturesque River Dart with it's historic past. Take ferry trips to ancient Totnes or around the bay.
The town holds festivals almost every month of the year including the popular Royal Regatta at the end of August and the famous Red Arrows display.
Dartmouth is surrounded by beautiful countryside which offers stunning walks along the South West coastal paths that take you through woods and farms, past beaches and coves. Or just relax along the Dartmouth embankment and watch the boats go by with an ice cream.
