About this location

The Devon region

Devon is a popular holiday destination in South west England. The scenery and climate have made the area a favoured destination for the past 250 years. Over that time much has changed, yet much of the character and many of the local traditions have remained.

The coast and countryside are still extraordinarily beautiful, which is why more than two thirds of South Devon is carefully protected as a national asset, either in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or as part of the Dartmoor National Park.

Dartmouth is characterised by its narrow lanes, stairways and corridors and plenty of medieval and Elizabethan features. It is a beautiful town steeped in history with many of the buildings dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The oldest building in Dartmouth is the Cherub Public House which dates back as far as 1380!

The Britannia Royal Naval College famous for training the Royal Navy's Officers sits majestically overlooking the town and down the River Dart towards Kingswear and the Dartmouth Castle and out to sea. The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway is on the Kingwear side of the river and trains run regularly offering a traditional and unique blast from the past.

"Best view in Dartmouth"

Just returned from a weekend break at this wonderful apartment. It has everything needed. The most amazing views from sunrise to sunset. Views don't come free, there are plenty of steps up from t… More

Thank you for writing this lovely review on Oystercatcher- it's fantastic to hear you enjoyed your holiday and all that Oystercatcher has to offer.
You aren't wrong in saying “views don't come free” the steps up to the property are plentiful- however there is no better view in Dartmouth; of Kingswear and the River Dart than from above town, so I will have to agree with you that it is very much worth the climb!
Leaving your car in the town and still able to get everywhere required on foot is a luxury which is lost in many towns these days, so well done for taking advantage of this!
Oystercatcher is a stunning property and is one guests can't help but return to. We are pleased you enjoyed your holiday and we hope you are able to come for another holiday.

"Couldn't have been better"

Oystercatcher is way above the average holiday rental. This would seem primarily the owners' bolt hole in Dartmouth that they just happen to rent out when they aren't using it - and lucky for us that they do. The décor is very tasteful and under-stated and the standard of equipment is very high.

Oystercatcher is very well situated for the many restaurants and other attractions in the centre of Dartmouth. The location gives spectacular views over the Dart estuary, even while you're lying in bed in the main bedroom. The location would only be an issue for people who could not copy with steps (about 150 up from the riverside) or driving down narrow lanes. Neither of these were a problem for us and are shared with many other parts of Dartmouth..

Hi. Thank you so much for your review of Oystercatcher and it is indeed a stunning 'bolthole' enjoying fantasic views over the River. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay here in Dartmouth. Best wishes from The Blueriver Team

Thank you very much for your review. I'm very glad you enjoyed your stay at Oyster Catcher. Indeed, the roadway has been affected due to gas pipes being renewed but this is just temporary and will soon be completed. Do please call again and we will waiver the booking fee for your next visit as a gesture from all of us here at Blueriver Cottages.
