As avid walkers, we wanted to find a base to explore Dartmoor. We stumbled across Tilley's Cottage, of which now we are so grateful! Set in the most hospitable village of Moretonhampstead, with its friendly pubs, quality of food and general amenities, it offers top class accommodation, and really does feel like a 'home from home'. The owners are keen to ensure that your stay is a pleasant one and have gone to great lengths to document local features, restaurants, places of interest, etc. - but also, are only a phone call away should you need them. We have enjoyed Tilley's Cottage so much that we have recently booked our third stay! |

My family and I (5 adults plus 2 little dachschunds) thoroughly enjoyed a week's stay in this beautiful cottage set in charming Moretonhampstead. It really did feel like a home from home. The kitchen had all the mod cons, the house comfortably accommodated 5 of us and we loved the log fire in the evenings. The location was also a huge positive with a fantastic butchers just next door and the post office and co-op across the road plus plenty of lovely little pubs and a yummy tea room serving the best scones ever! The parking situation was fine as we found residential parking just up the road but there is also a car park which charges a couple of quid for the day if it's busy in peak season. We found Tilley's cottage was a perfect base to go and explore beautiful Dartmoor with it's tors, cute villages and pubs as well as being within easy reach of Exeter and Tavistock if the weather isn't so great. We really enjoyed our break at Tilley's and will certainly intend on going back there if we ever venture across to Devon again. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about the property etc. |
Guestbook for Tilley's Cottage
VERY cosy and welcoming with everything on the doorstep. We could walk from the door towards Dartmoor and there are numerous well signed walks.! We had an excellent meal at the pub a few metres from the cottage and the next door deli is the best ever, which made eating in a pleasure as well.

This cottage is better than the photos...the attention to detail and the amazingly lavish upholstery and furnishings outstrip any hotel I've stayed in. Our 4 year old loved the nooks and crannies to hide in in this character property. The surrounding countryside is stunning for walks. There is tha added bonus of a first class deli next door , a co-op 100 metres away and three pubs within 400 metres so all very handy.
Tilly's cottage made our choice one of the best decisions we've ever made. The cottage exceeded our expectations in every respect - comfort, location, functionality - it was a joy to spend time there - the only challenge we faced was whether to head off for a Dartmoor walk (and cream tea) or to stay in and relax (the sofa is very addictive!)
We had 2 great evening meals at the White Hart hotel (the staff were really friendly and efficient) and our 15 month old daughter shuffled around the lounge area to her hearts content. Michael Howard's Deli / Butchers counter next door did some good business out of us during our stay and we were very impressed.
We will definitely be recommending Tilly's cottage to family and friends and hope to return very soon.
