Great Burrow Cottage (Sunday Times "50 Coolest Cottages in Britain and Ireland") is a detached former Linhay found in the heart of undulating West Devon countryside, in the grounds of Grade II listed Great Burrow Farmhouse. It has stunning uninterrupted views of Dartmoor. French doors lead to a private patio and tranquil gardens with wildlife ponds, free-range chickens and ducks, a beautiful honey-coloured cob and stone barn, ancient oak trees and sweeping views of Dartmoor's wild northern tors. A heat exchange system provides constant hot water with underfloor heating that keeps the cottage really cosy and a woodburner too for that added snug feel. The contemporary bathroom has a slate floor and large bath with a deluge shower above. French doors lead to your own patio and large tranquil gardens with 2 wildlife ponds. There are great walks directly from the cottage taking in streams, forests and valleys. Enjoy a camp fire round the firepit, as the sun sets on Yes Tor; laze in the hammock under the tall willows. There are table tennis and darts in the adjacent barn..or in the cottage DVD, Freeview, Wifi, books and binoculars!

It comfortably sleeps 5.
The hot water and heating is from a very efficient geo-thermal ground loop heat exchange system, keeping the cottage at a constant temperature no matter what the weather. We also have a woodburner to make things extra enticing in the autumn and winter.
Beautifully converted with oak and slate floors, it has a master double bedroom and a loft bedroom with 3 single beds.

The large partly wooded garden has two big wildlife ponds and a firepit with far reaching views and great walks directly from the cottage. Our local pub is about a 40 min wonderful muddy walk through streams and valleys. We have free ranging chickens and ducks too!
The West Country / Devon region
The cottage is close to the Cornwall and Devon border and is ideal for both a relaxing, centrally located country retreat or an active family holiday. The glorious North Cornwall coastline is less than 30 min drive with its world class surfing beaches and Dartmoor is on the doorstep with fantastic walks and riding on its dramatic wild Tors, beautiful wooded valleys and ancient forests. Great Burrow Cottage is a perfect base to explore this very varied and rewarding area rich in wildlife and spoilt with great pubs and restaurants.
The Dartmoor / Bratton Clovelly area
Dartmoor, Bodmin moor and Exmoor are all within easy driving distance whilst fifteen minutes drive away is the castle town of Okehampton and the Cathedral city of Exeter about 30 minutes. The market towns of Tavistock and Launceston are also within easy reach.
Dartmoor offers horse riding, cycling, walking and great pubs whilst the North Cornwall coast has miles of sandy beaches, fascinating rock pools and stunning cliff top walks. In addition there are excellent golf courses, water sports, and fishing. We can give you more tailored information when you arrive but have listed a local selection here.
Dartmoor was designated one of the National Parks of England and Wales in 1951. The public is able to roam freely on its 369 square miles of unenclosed, open moorland, with around 600 miles of public rights of way. Dartmoor is a rich habitat for wildlife and has a wealth of archaeological remains, myths and legends. The cottage has guide books on some of the best walks.
You can find great walks directly from the cottage, taking in streams, forests and valleys many with beautiful far-reaching views of Dartmoor and even Bodmin moor. Many more walks can be found at the Discover Dartmoor website.
Riding:
Great Burrow Cottage has stables and a paddock should you wish to take advantage of the numerous bridleways that crisscross the area. Please contact us for livery rates. If you don't have your own horse you can go riding on the moor from many stables including Eastlake Riding Stables in nearby Belstone.
Mountain biking:
The Granite Way is an 18km cycle/walkway from Okehampton to Lydford with a large part of it being traffic-free, through beautiful countryside. It is part of the National Cycle Route 27. If you don't bring your own bike you can hire them from Devon Cycle Hire who will deliver bikes to the cottage.

North Cornwall is one of the country's most popular surfing coasts with world class surfing beaches at Widemouth Bay and Bude. We can help you find perfect beaches for swimming, paddling and rockpooling.

Lydford Gorge near Okehampton is spectacular. Starting high above the river, weaving through the woods to the 30m White Lady waterfall, it then follows a series of whirl pools including the Devils Cauldron.

Exeter is our main centre for transport links with fast trains from London in 2 1/4 hrs. Exeter International Airport has the budget airline Flybe among it's featured airlines.
By Road: from the A30 take the A3079 towards Bude. Continue through Thorndon Cross then take the next left signposted "Bratton Clovelly/Boasley/South Reed Fisheries" to Boasley Cross. At the five-way junction take the road opposite the school between the church and the yellow house signposted "South Reed Fisheries", for 0.7 miles. Look for the dead end/bridle path sign and take a right here. In half a mile and you will find us, the thatched house on the left. Turn in just after through the five bar gate on the left.

All prices are for one week's rental including linen and towels.
Short breaks are available so please contact us for details. For 3 nights the cost is 70% of the weekly price and for 4 nights the cost is 85% of the weekly price. We also offer late deals.
Dogs are welcome at £30 per week and we ask they are kept on leads in the grounds.
We have a dog basket but please bring bedding for them and towels.
Please contact us for rates regarding horses.
A deposit of 30% is required when booking with the balance payable at the beginning of your holiday (unless last minute booking, in which case the total amount needs to be received when booking). We strongly advise taking out holiday insurance. In the event you have to cancel, for whatever reason, we will do everything possible to re-let the cottage to others but if we are unable to do so, we regret that you are still liable for the full balance.
Unless agreed before hand, arrival time is 4pm, checking out time is 10.30am.
