The immediate area around Mill Barn is stunning. In January 2012 'The Telegraph' stated that Lustleigh was the 'best village' on Dartmoor. The East & West Wray and the river Bovey have carved deep wooded valleys studded with granite outcrops and tors providing a haven for wildlife. The houses are a chocolate box assortment of thatched roofs and granite walls. Lustleigh has often featured in lists of the UK's prettiest villages. Lustleigh village is situated around its church and boasts a well stocked shop and post office, a lovely tearoom serving lunches, teas and cakes, as well as a busy and popular pub 'The Cleave'. Lustleigh is situated 3 miles from market town of Bovey Tracey where you can find a butchers, bakers, greengrocers, pharmacy and more lovely cafe's and attractions.

Dartmoor is a National Park often described as the last wilderness in Southern Britain. The moor reaches heights of more than 2000ft (600m) and provides a perfect environment in which to relax walking, riding, mountain biking, climbing and canoeing. For those looking for a more restful time there are wonderful drives taking in the stunning views of the moors and tors.

Trips to the South Devon coast are easy with Teignmouth and Shaldon just 20 minutes drive away and the glorious sandy beaches of the South Hams up to 45 minutes drive away.

The West Country region

Devon is in the South West of England Devon is rightly regarded as one the most beautifful counties in the UK.

The region offers immense landscape beauty and variety in a compact area. From sandy beaches, rocky headlands, rugged moors topped by granite tors with rolling countryside in between the area offers something for all visitiors.

Devon is home to two National Parks (Dartmoor & Exmoor) as well as countless areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Dartmoor

Mill Barn is the perfect holiday cottage for exploring Dartmoor, South Devon and further afield.

The immediate area around Mill Barn is stunning. In January 2012 'The Telegraph' stated that Lustleigh was the 'best village' on Dartmoor. For those looking for a more restful time there are wonderful drives taking in the stunning views of the moors and tors. Don't just take our word for it, Dartmoor has impressed a little known, up and coming film maker.

"I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor... And, with two-and-a-half weeks of extensive coverage of landscapes and skies, I hardly scratched the surface of the visual opportunities that were offered to me."

Mr. Steven Spielberg.

In fact Dartmoor has a long established reputation for providing beautiful and evocative backdrops for film and television drama. The critically acclaimed 'Sherlock' from the BBC starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman filmed their Hound of the Baskervilles episode just 4 miles away. Spielberg's 'War Horse' used numerous locations on Dartmoor some of them near Mill Barn. Dartmoor has also been seen in episodes of 'Jam and Jerusalem' 'The Comic Strip' and 90's Indie band Suede filmed the video for 'The Wild Ones' on the moor. Factual television programmes on Dartmoor have included 'The Edwardian Farm', 'Springwatch', 'Ben's Zoo' and every week Hay Tor (2.5 miles distant) features in the title sequence of 'Countryfile'.

Hi Tash & Neil,

Thank you so much for your review.

Lustleigh misses your presence and the pub quiz is lost without your sporadic winning and wooden spooning appearances.

We hope to see you again soon.

Take care,

"Great location but some key issues with accommodation."

Thank you taking the time to write your review of our property Mill Barn.

We are tremendously upset by your review as well the tone and content of the emails you sent us following your stay. We provided you with a refund following your complaints although we do take issue with many of the points you have raised.

For five years we have been welcoming guests to Mill Barn and we have had the pleasure of hosting almost 200 couples in that time. In that period we have not received a single complaint so I suppose that statistically this was going to happen one day.

At no point during your stay did you express any concerns regarding Mill Barn, this despite us speaking on numerous occasions. When you left one day early you informed us that you had left for 'family reasons'. It was only on your return home that you informed us of your dissatisfaction and desire for a refund.

As we provided you with comprehensive answers to the issues you raised as well as providing you with a refund all my other comments are directed to future potential guests.

Since these guests stayed we have been fortunate enough to have been fully booked. Guess what? No complaints, just happy people enjoying their holiday in a beautiful location.

The bathroom is cleaned by a professional cleaner on the day our guests arrive. Like many bathrooms there can be problems with discolouration to the grout and sealant. The bathroom has been re-painted and the grout and sealant refreshed. The result is very smart and welcoming.

One of Mill Barn's quirky and charming features is that it is built into the side of a hill. This means that the lower ground floor retains a higher humidity and constant temperature. The notion that somehow 'clothes were unwearable' and that bed was damp is ridiculous.

We believe that Mill Barn offers guests a welcoming and comfortable base from which to explore Dartmoor and Devon. Please take the time to look at our website, YouTube video or call us to discuss your needs.
