The South West of England is one of Britain's most visited regions. An area of dramatic maritime coastline and rolling green hills, with Dartmoor National Park and Bodmin Moor offering areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Visitors to the region are attracted by the scenery and wildlife including the famous Dartmoor ponies which roam across the moor, the stunning coastline and beaches, delicious cream teas, traditional pasties and pretty thatched villages. The area around Eversfield Lodge is a rural idyll of farming country and small villages.
The Dartmoor / Tavistock area
Eversfield is the perfect central base from which to explore Devon & Cornwall and conveniently located for Dartmoor National Park which offers endless walking and sightseeing opportunities. Within easy reach are all major attractions along the A30 in the South West, including the famous Eden Project at St Austell and Land's End. Historic Exeter is only a 35 minute drive away, Maritime Plymouth is an hour away with Penzance less than 2 hours by car.
Within easy reach is the Atlantic coastline including the popular towns of Padstow, Newquay and Bude with a choice of surfing beaches and coastal walks. The local towns of Tavistock and Okehampton offer a variety of amenities and occasional farmer's markets. There are many National Trust Properties in the area and a wide variety of outdoors activities to suit everyone including surfing, golf, pony trekking, cycling, rock climbing and walking.

The house itself was lovely, although as it is in the grounds of the Manor House it feels very overlooked - especially as there are no window coverings at all downstairs. On arrival, after a 6 hour drive and having huge difficulty finding the house and receiving no answer when telephoning we were met by a young man that said "unload here and then move your car round the back - sorry, but I'm in a rush to go out..... " We had four children and had driven from London in torrential rain - not the welcome I would have liked. The parking provisions, were adequate but akward - round the back of the property in some sort of yard which would have play havoc with our tyres were we not driving 4x4s - also, there was no outside lighting so it was dangerous negotiating our way back to the house after a day out with 4 kids and a dog.... When I queried whether there was any milk or bread on arrival - I was told no, and the closest shop was a 20 minute drive away. Considering the owners owned a farm a pint of fresh milk so that we could have a cup of tea or even provide the kids with a cup of milk would have seemed the least they could have done. Also, trying to recover the security deposit took over a week. Such a shame as the house was charming...... |

Its a beautiful house in a small village, just 15 minutes drive from a town. If you really want to enjoy country side then this is a very good option. Rooms are beautiful, very spacious. Owners have left everything you may need in a home away from home from kitchen, toiletries to beddings. We went there in a group of 7 people with an infant in peak season and absolutely loved our stay. Just a small note from location perspective, you definitely need GPS to help you locate. If you dont fancy staying away from crowds on your own - then probably this is not a place for you. Its a property totally on its own, with nothing much nearby for a good 10 minutes drive. Nearest town is okehampton, which is very nice too. |
