The West Country / Devon region
The Dartmoor National Park is one of England's last great wildernesses with a uniquely diverse landscape. Over 200 granite tors tower majestically over open moorland where native breed ponies, cattle and sheep graze freely. There are no pylons or wind turbines and the landscape is rich in stone and iron age remains. Lush valleys with torrenting rivers, picturesque villages and ancient stannary towns await exploration.
The sandy beaches of the South Hams are just under half an hour away as are the exciting cities of Exeter and Plymouth. Take a Steam Trains and River Boat down the River Dart to Dartmouth, explore the Jurassic Coast, Eden Project, breakers on the North Cornwall Coast equally accessible from Holwell as day-trips.
The Dartmoor / Widecombe-in-the-Moor area
Widecombe in the Moor is a picturesque moorland village nestling in one of England's most beautiful and unspoilt valleys. Ponies come to greet you and there are several pubs to rest in after an exilerating walk of the nearby tors. The famous Fair still takes place every September. Other nearby attractions include the Stanary towns of Ashburton, Chagford and Tavistock; all have great local food shops and markets.
Bovey Tracey also features a great outdoor pool, renowned Craft Centre in the old mill and famous Marble House for great gift ideas. Activities for all the family from walking and hiking, riding, climbing, cycling and fishing. Young children love to walk to the nearby Bonehill Rocks for a spot of "letterboxing".
