'The Mill' truly is an exquisite place to stay – a countryside retreat and the perfect location to escape from the world. We are located in a hidden valley that slopes down to a small stream. There are 4 Ponds along the stream. The ground is slightly sloping and we also have big 'Devon Hills'!

Set in an Idyllic countryside retreat with woodland walks set in glorious rolling Devon hills we have a small fishing lake and ponds filled with carp. A Tennis court is available for you (please borrow our rackets and have a friendly game!), alongside our workshop and secure storage for bikes.
A bird watchers paradise (goshawks, buzzards, owls, ducks) we have excellent Dartmoor walks and we are very near to Haytor, Widecombe in the Moor, Ashburton, Totnes and Hound Tor (made famous by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles). We are 5/10 minutes from the A38 Expressway and very accessible.
As we are a farm, we have animals who are looked after extremely well - our native breed cattle (born and raised on Dartmoor), our chickens and our three extremely handsome dogs, Holly, Pumpkin and Scruff!

"A truly magical place to stay"
It's hard to describe in words how much we enjoyed staying at Lurcombe. Not only did it live up to very high expectations we'd developed (derived from the photos, description & other reviews) but actually exceeded them! Though not far from the A38, Lurcombe is, as the description will tell you, beautifully nestled away in a hidden valley. The key was left in the door for us and we were at once made to feel at home & completely relaxed by Nick who happened to be out with the dogs (who also deserve a special mention - they are fab!) at the time we arrived. We stayed in the Mill. It was spacious, clean & very comfortable - the open plan kitchen & lounge gave it a great feel, and the bedroom was fantastic, with an amazing king size bed! There's a small hatch above the bed so you can peek out over the rolling hills in the mornings as you plan your day, just beautiful. Nick's suggestions were also great - we spent the Saturday walking around Haytor & over to Hound Tor, which are about 3 miles away from Lurcombe. Saturday evening we went to the lovely Rugglestone in at Widecombe on the Moor, and on Sunday we wondered into nearby village Ilsington to another great pub - The Carpenters Arms (all on Nick's recommendations). As we found out, it's very difficult to understand the magic of this place without visiting. We would highly recommend it and are already planning our next visit! Thank you Nick & Sarah.

"Cosy, warm, homely and well located!"
I stayed at The Mill for 3 nights in November - it is a lovely, cosy, comfortable place to stay near all the main Dartmoor sights. It is clean, well equipped and has stunning views. It's location is perfect, near lovely Ashburton with a superb choice of independent shops yet near unspoilt Dartmoor for great hiking, views and space! It is peaceful and has an amazingly comfortable bed to relax in after an active day....There are maps and plenty of locational advice to utilise.

"Wonderful accommodation, ideally situated."
The Mill was a warm and comfortable cottage, with Nick and Sarah close by and always ready to help and advise. Lurcombe is an excellent location, both in terms of its nearness to the stunning south- eastern side of the moor, and also its proximity to the A38. We walked every day of our week-long stay, on the moors and in the wooded valleys, and were bowled away by the breathtaking views and autumn colours. The dogs always gave us an enthusiastic welcome on our return home each evening! We can't wait to return!
Thankyou very much, the Autumn colours were spectacular and really pleased to hear you found some great walks, we hope to see you again, all the best, Nick & Sarah

"Glorious cosy country retreat"
What a wonderful place. The cottage itself - the Mill was fabulous really nicely done and everything one could ask for - including THE most amazing bed ever. Fabulously comfortable and beautifully styled. Location is perfect very near Ashburton which is lovely and right on the edge of the moors. Even the farm itself has lovely walks, not to mention the company of the lovely resident dogs! Nick and Sarah are lovely hosts and have done a great job on these cottages, incredibly welcoming and hospitable. Cannot rate this place highly enough we will definitely be back.
Thankyou very much for the lovely review, hope to see you again at some stage.
PS the secret to the Coleslaw at Home Farm Cafe, we found out, was rock salt! Best Regards,Nick & Sarah...

"Fantastic stay in beautiful cottage"
We had a wonderful stay here over the bank holiday (2 adults, 1 infant). Cottage is freshly decorated and fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. Nick (the owner) was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

"Perfect escape from the real world!"
Visiting Devon for a wedding, thought we would make a mini holiday of it. Lurcombe Farm offered a perfect, tranquil home from home, the finishing touches made it so welcoming from the fresh eggs, milk and boftle of wine to the offer of freely taking the lovely farm dogs out for a walk... more like they walked us! Was a great escape from the real world of work and house work! Very sad to have to leave :( so much to do locally also, such a beautiful area we haven't stopped taking photos! Would recomend to anyone!

"Beautiful and peaceful"
We stayed here on 25th July 2014 and were met with a warm welcome by Nick and Sarah, and their lovely dogs Pumpkin, Scruff and little Holly. Definitely a hidden gem - The whole place was beautiful, quiet and peaceful and overlooked stunning scenery. We couldn't of wished for a better place to spend the weekend, with some places to eat, Paignton Seafront and Zoo and Becky Falls all within a short car journey away. We would definitely recommend this place to any couple looking for a romantic retreat!
Thankyou for the lovely feedback, have a great rest of the summer, hope to see you again soon, All the best, Nick

We booked this last minute and from the photos and talking to Nick I was very excited about staying at Lurcombe Cottages in The Mill. When we arrived we were greeted by the most gorgeous views and the loveable Scruff, Pumpkin & Holly. The Mill was absolutely beautiful and my boyfriend and I were so amazed at how perfect everything was, right down to the finer details. Nick and Sarah were very friendly and great at giving advise on what to see or where to go. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away to come and visit Lurcombe Cottages. We will definitely be returning again!
Thanks Sophia very much, have a great summer, all the best, Sarah & Nick

"A relaxing weekend"
A well furnished little cottage on a lovely little farm just on the edge of Dartmoor. We had a lovely relaxing weekend break here. We were greeted by the owner Nick and 3 very friendly dogs, Pumpkin, Holly and Scruff. Nick was very welcoming, giving us some great tips about what to do in the local area. On his recommendation we climbed Haytor Rocks for some fantastic views of the moors before having a great pub lunch at the Ruddlestone (huge portions). This place is a hidden gem if you want a break in the countryside and great value for money. We'll definitely be coming back in the near future!
Thankyou very much for your comments, have a great summer, we look forward to seeing you again in the future in our little part of the world...
