The Granary
About the home
Lurcombe is a working Farm of some 40 Acres and parts of the buildings have been lovingly converted into luxury Apartments (The Granary & The Mill).
'The Granary' truly is an exquisite place to stay – a countryside retreat and the perfect location to escape from the world. We are located in a hidden valley that slopes down to a small stream. There are four ponds along the stream. The ground is slightly sloping and we also have big 'Devon Hills'!
The apartments are first class (The Granary and The Mill) that ooze character and charm (vaulted ceilings, beams, chandeliers, ornate mantlepiece, king sized beds, 'sunken' showers, leather sofas, easy chairs, thick pile carpets/rugs).
We offer a Bottle of Wine, eggs (from our chickens) and milk on your arrival.
Set in an Idyllic countryside retreat with woodland walks set in glorious rolling Devon hills we have a small fishing lake and ponds filled with carp. A Tennis court is available for you (please borrow our rackets and have a friendly game!), alongside our workshop and secure storage for bikes.
A bird watchers paradise (goshawks, buzzards, owls, ducks) we have excellent Dartmoor walks and we are very near to Haytor, Widecombe in the Moor, Ashburton, Totnes and Hound Tor (made famous by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles). We are 5/10 minutes from the A38 Expressway and very accessible.
As we are a farm, we have animals who are looked after extremely well - our native breed cattle (born and raised on Dartmoor), our chickens and our three extremely handsome dogs, Holly, Pumpkin and Scruff!

I decided to book this idyllic and wonderful luxury accommodation for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and could not have chosen better. I trusted my instinct based on an excellent pictorial website and the initial contact with the owners Sarah and Nick. The first impressions after a drive down the private road could not have been more impressive in its natural valley setting amongst the rolling hills, neither could the warm and professional greeting from our host, in this case Sarah who took us around a wonderfully decorated apartment with sunken shower, modern kitchen, warm and cosy living room and bedroom with wooden beams, the whole place was full of character. Oh, a bottle of wine was complimentary, as were the chocolates, milk, coffee, tea and free range eggs amongst other condiment items. Everything has been thought of, including walking maps, DVD's books, magazines etc. The farm offers a lovely close proximity walk and is almost 100% in bounds to guests. Included in the warm hospitality are the dogs - Scruffy, Pumpkin and Holly who all take to you as is they have known you forever (the treats in a jar in the kitchen are a good ice breaker!) They are constant companions when walking the land. I would recommend this value for money luxurious accommodation to anyone although I hope that the review will not make it too impossible to re-book for a second experience at this "Hidden Gem" later in the year! Thank You Nick and Sarah A* Response: We are so thrilled that you enjoyed Lurcombe and that you had such a wonderful experience. Thank you so so so much for your review. It means the world to us and we're really thankful that you've taken the time to write down your thoughts. We look forward to your second visit and send our very best regards to you both! Thank You, Sarah and Nick |
