The Old Smithy is a detached stone cottage located on the edge of Dartmoor near Oakhampton.
Formally an Old Forge the cottage has been renovated to a very high standard.
The fittings are modern and the decor is contemporary whilst retaining many original features such as the large stone fireplace, exposed stone walls and beamed vaulted ceilings.
The cottage is situated on a quiet lane (The Tarka Trail), and is opposite a farm in a pretty village. It is centrally located between the North and South Devon coasts, with the nearest beaches being Bude and Widemouth Bay just a 45 minute drive away.
The cottage benefits from having two bathrooms, one en-suite of the master bedroom which has a King size bed. There is a stunning spacious sitting room with a vaulted ceiling and gallery plus a grand stone fireplace.
The master suite is on the ground floor and is therefore very convenient for any guest with restricted mobility.
There is a very pretty private walled garden with seating area and a BBQ.
The Old Smithy is ideally situated for anyone looking for a village location with a wealth of outdoor pursits on the door step. There are several Golf courses in the local area approx 10 - 15 minutes drive away.
The Granite Way, which runs from The Old Steam Railway at Oakhampton accross the Meldon Viaduct, (with it's spectacular views of the moor) and on through to Lydford, (for The Gorge), makes the perfect day out for all the family. Castle Drogo is also a short drive away with it's dramatic position on the edge of the Moor.
The cottage is equally suitable for young families as well as couples.
It benefits from being fully central heated and is extremely cosy all year round.
There is a large stock of books, games , DVD's and a selection of childrens toys for your enjoyment.

The accomodation is arranged as follows over two floors.
THE ENTRANCE takes you into a secure proch which provides ample storage for Walking / Wellington boots, Wet Suits, Bicycles and Beach accessories.
The Porch leads into the kitchen dinner. This is a well equiped modern kitchen, finished with chunky oak worktops and limestone flooring.
This double aspect room is accessed from the kitchen. The grand stone fireplace and dramatic high vaulted ceiling with galleried Mezzanine add drama and character to this spectacular space.
There is a flat screen TV with family SKY package and DVD player. There are full length windows that open out onto the private walled garden.
BEDROOM 1 & EN-SUITE
The master bedroom has a KING SIZE bed and modern en-suite. The Master Suit leads off the sitting room.
It is therefore very convenient for any guest with restricted mobility.
This is a large double aspect bedroom on the first floor. It has a beautiful vaulted ceiling and there are twin beds and BLACK OUT BLINDS at both windows.
The large spacious first floor family bathroom has modern fittings and a stunning free standing bath.
A pretty private walled garden with teak furniture and a BBQ.
There is an open fronted Garage large enough to hold bikes, a dinghy, surf boards, canoes or motorbikes,
There is also a private drive for one large car. In addition parking is available on the Tarka Trail out side the cottage.
THE MEZZANINE READING ROOM.
This is a cosy room that overlooks the sitting room there is seating and a large stock of reading material for you to enjoy.
In addition there is plenty of board games DVD's and a selection of childrens toys for you to enjoy.
Bedding, duvet covers and towels are included.
Please bring beach towels. There are two beach chairs for use.
Iron, travel cot, jounior bed guard and 'Tripp-Trap Stokke' high chair are available for use. Free of charge.
Strictly no smoking.
We regret that the log burner is not available for use.

The cottage benefits from having a private walled garden with generous seating area. There is also a large covered secure porch suitable for Boots and Wet Suit drying. There is an open fronted garage which is large enough to hold a Dingy, Surf Boards or Motor Bike(s) and has bike lock facilities.
There is off road parking in front of the Garage for one large car.
Short Breaks are available.
The Devon region
If you love the coast, the beautiful sandy beaches at Bude and Widemouth Bay are a 45 minute drive away, with Tintagel and Bocastle a little further along the coastline.
The Eden Project, Plymouth (for The Aquarium and Historic dock side), the magnificent Lanhydrock House (National Trust) and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are also in easy reach for the prefect day trip.
Dartmoor National Park
The Old Smithy is situated just 5 miles from Dartmoor National Park.
The spectacular National Trust attractions of Lydford Gorge and Castle Drogo are also just a short drive away on the Northern edge of the Moor.
The Granite Way cycle route and footpath which runs along the northern perimeter of Dartmoor National Park, connecting Okehampton (Railway Station) and the pretty village of Lydford, is a convenient way to take in the Park’s stunning scenery. A steam engine service also operates from Okehampton Railway Station.
For the keen sportsperson there are a host of local attractions including, golf courses, fishing lakes, horse riding and a North Shore mountain bike range (in the local woods).
