About the home

Old Style Cottage is located in the village of Jacobstowe, in the heart of Devon, right on the Tarka Trail. It has been tastefully refurbished to a very high standard, yet retaining the traditional features of a cob and thatch farm cottage, including solid oak floors throughout, original fireplace with bread oven, beams and window seats.

Downstairs is open plan with a well-equipped kitchen/diner, and a stylish lounge area which has a living flame gas stove in addition to central heating.

The solid oak staircase leads to a family bathroom and two charming bedrooms, one double and one twin or second double.

Outside there is a small garden with a seating area and off-road parking.

We have used our own experiences of staying in holiday cottages to guide our refurbishment of Old Style Cottage, so you will find it spotlessly clean and well-thought out, but with all the charm you would expect from a 17th Century, Grade 11 listed thatched cottage.

In the second bedroom, the 2 single beds can be zipped and linked into a king size bed. All bed linen and towels are included in the rental price.

If you have young children, we have a cot, high chair, safety gate, fire guard, toilet step-stool, children's cutlery, plates, bowls, and beakers. There is also a selection of games, CDs, DVDs and soft toys.

The cottage has a small, attractive front garden with rural views and a seating area. It has its own off-road parking at the rear of the cottage, on the owners' property.

Our visitors consistently comment that the cottage is in a perfect central location for exploring all the delights of Devon. There is something for everyone to enjoy - walkers, cyclists and sports enthusiasts are traditionally well catered for, but if you like history, quaint villages and architecture, shopping, or just pottering about, you will find plenty to do.

The Dartmoor / Okehampton area

Jacobstowe is a small, quiet village in a pretty, rural setting. It has a number of thatched properties and a parish church which dates back to the 12th Century. The Tarka Trail runs alongside the cottage.

It is 4 miles from Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor. Okehampton is a small town with 3 supermarkets, a good range of other shops and a farmers' market on Saturdays. There are many amenities, including a castle, The Museum of Dartmoor Life, a cinema, a sports centre with swimming pool, and a choice of cafes and restaurants. The Granite Way runs close to a small local railway.
