The South Syria/Damascus region

Damascus is one of the most interesting places in the world for travellers, brimming with history as the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. The enormous Omayyad Mosque with its richly decorated interior, the Roman walls & gates, the Biblical sites, the hammams & of course the bustling markets hold visitors in a spell of fascination.
