The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Dalyan is a lovely small riverside town located on the Turquoise coast in southern Turkey. It has an enticing mix of breathtaking views, fantastic weather, warm friendly hospitality, plentiful restaurants, charming bars and places to shop.
Dalyan is well known thanks to its proximity to the famous 7km Iztuzu Beach where the endangered Loggerhead Turtles (Caretta Caretta) lay their eggs. The beach and surrounding area is a natural conservation area and is protected from development. The beach can be reached by minibus or by a relaxing boat ride on the Dalyan Canal and on through the reed beds. As well as Loggerhead Turtles Dalyan is also home to the largest population of the Soft Shelled Nile Turtles (Trionyx triunguis). The wet land areas are home to many migrating birds and storks nest all over the area.
Steeped in history Dalyan is overlooked by ancient Lycian Rock Tombs which are the last resting places of the Kings of Kaunos, meanwhile the Dalyan Canal weaves its way past the village on its way from Köycegiz Lake to the beach.
Across the canal are the ruins of the city of Kaunos, with a Roman theatre, fortifications, basilica and many other sites to be seen. Dalyan itself has strict building regulations which ensures a traditional feeling in the village. Originally a fishing village, the name Dalyan means "fish trap". Fishing still makes a major contribution to the local economy and the daily catch features prominently on restaurant menus. The village has a warm welcome to visitors and most people who visit once return time and time again.
The Dalyan area
The Saturday Market is a joy to shop at, from the best quality fake designer wear to fresh vegetables and of course a plentiful collection of local spices and teas; as a working market you will shop alongside tourists and locals alike.
With mud baths, Turkish baths, thermal springs, an historic mosque and scenic walks Dalyan has it all for the perfect relaxing holiday. Early season is a nature lovers delight with many amazing walks providing the opportunity to observe the wildlife with migrating birds and outstanding flora and fauna. Many guests choose April and May for walking holidays with perfect temperatures and weather conditions.
Nearby you can also find Tlos, an ancient roman site with Lycian rock caves; Saklikent Gorge, a natural marvel to walk through; the beautiful bays of Bacardi, Asi and Ekincik, perfect for snorkeling.
Dalyan is also just over an hours drive from Marmaris or Fethiye with the glorious Öludeniz just outside Fethiye. You can take a boat tour from Göcek around the 12 islands, or just walk around the marina and marvel at the yachts.

Although we had preference for booking via the website Holiday Lettings but the villa owner had contacted us and settled the booking without intervention of any rental company for some reason. It turned out that she asked for more rent than it was listed in the websites, and security deposit is non-refundable. The villa was well equipped except the pool 2 days out of order during our stay of 9 days. Finally, I would recommend potential tenants to make a registered booking even though somewhere else. |

We have just returned from a fantastic fortnight at Vill Zakkum. The villa itself is immaculate and provided everything that our family of five needed. The pool was superb and plenty large enough for our three boys to play and swim in. The 'pool boy' visits every two days to check and maintain the pool which is great from a cleanliness and hygeine point of view. The location was a bit more remote than we expected but, once we had got our bearings, it was very easy to travel to and from Dalyan on the local Dolmus buses that will pick you up at the end of the road. They are very regular but finish at 11.00pm after which a taxi would be needed. The position out of town means that the villa is lovely and peaceful away from noise and traffic. Dalyan is a nice town with plenty to amuse without being too touristy and busy and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Debbie was very friendly and helpful and easy to contact if needed. A great holiday! |

Villa Superb,Dalyan fantastic, everyone so friendly and helpful. Boat trips were well worth the money, never felt we would be jumping off the top deck of the boat on the 12 Islands cruise, swimming in the lake and mud baths, a one off experience. Reccommend Cardak for steak and Sini for Turkish cuisine. It was great getting a free lift back from wherever(you only have to ask) Hope to be back soon. Julie,Paul,Frances & Tim -Sussex England

Hi Bilal and Debbie
Had an excellent time.Very private peaceful location ideal for chilling out.Villa as good as it looks on the web, a bit further from town than we expected but very cheap bus service and taxis were 10 lira from outside the Kings Garden restaruant back to the villa at night.
Our teenage girls enjoyed the pool to themselves and never complained about being "bored" and are still talking about Freddie,Pumpkin and Ugly!(the dogs). Hope to see you again soon,

Lovely villa and a beautiful garden. We were made to feel very welcome by Debbie,Bilal Pumpkin Ugly & Freddie. Enjoyed visits to the beach, turtle watching, rafting, cycling and visiting the ruins. Would recommend Gunlukluk for lovely lunch and Saffran and Caretta Caretta at the far end of the mian street for evening meals. Dolmus excellent, regular service every 15 mins from the end of the road. Enjoyed being surrounded by the beautiful countryside and hope it won't become too commercialised. We will miss seeing the little spotty dog on the way to the bus.
