The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Dalyan is a lovely little town, most famous for its ancient burial chambers carved high up in the mountain side, the river and the beach to which it flows.
There is so much to see and do. The ancient ruins of Kanous is just across the river and is continually being excavated. See the well preserved ampitheatre, the reconstructed oil press and other amazing things. It's not difficult to imagine yourself back in Roman times with the streets bustling with life!
You can reach the local beach (called Turtle Beach) either by a leisurely boat ride or by the local bus which climbs up over the mountains and down again on the other side. They go to different ends of the same beach which is about a mile long. The beach is protected from any development as it is a famous nesting site for marine turtles. If you want, it is possible to go by bus and return by boat (or vise versa) but make sure you don't miss the last boat or bus back to Dalyan!
You can also take a boat trip in the other direction up river to visit the famous mud baths - they say you leave feeling 20 years younger! At the top of the lake is the town of Koycegiz (Monday is market day). Another boat trip is the wonderful Twelve Islands cruise from the pretty harbour town of Gocek and is not to be missed!
You can visit a hamam (Turkish bath) for that unforgettable experience! You can visit the amazing Saklikent Gorge, the incredible ruins of Ephesus and the amazing natural phenomena of Pamukkale.
You can also do much more active things like sea kayaking, white water rafting, paragliding and a safari jeep to name just a few. There is so much to see and do which makes Dalyan the perfect holiday destination
