The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The small town of Dalyan on the South-Western Mediterranean is set in the centre of a broad river delta whose natural beauty is completely unspoilt. This is a region of outstanding natural beauty and historic interest.
The Dalyan Channel, through which water circulates between the Mediterranean and Köycegiz Lake slowly meanders, forming a network of small lakes and waterways through reed beds rising to between 3 and 5 metres in height. With its mixture of fresh and salt water, these wetlands have become home to vast numbers of fish and other water life, as well as the birds of many species which feed on them.
Dividing the sea from the delta is the Iztuzu Beach, stretching for 5km east from the mouth of the channel. With its fine crystal sand, shallow turquoise sea and abundant sunshine, Iztuzu beach is the ideal seaside spot, perfect for swimming for 7 months of the year. It is this beach to which the endangered Mediterranean turtle Caretta Caretta returns year after year to lay its eggs.
The Spring comes early to this region, with no temperature below 10C even in mid winter. By March the sun is warming & reaches 20C, in April 27C is not unusual and the countryside is ablaze with flowers. May through to October the sun peaks at 40C, but the flora remains lush and in the cooler days of Autumn you still don't need anymore than a light fleece!
Dalyan / Marmarli area
Marmarli is a small hamlet 2 km outside of Dalyan. The houses are in a wooded conservation area of Gunluk trees [liquid amber] and consist of Turkish farm houses, local villas and holiday homes.
Nearby are the Sultaniye Thermal Baths, which are to the Southwest of Köycegiz lake. The water here is 40 C and was first used in Caunon times, then by the Byzantines, who rebuilt the accommodations. The ruins of the buildings from this period are submerged beneath the waters of the lake. The water is said to have curative properties in cases of neuralgia, rheumatism and skin disorders of the liver, spleen and bowels.
Directly across the river from Dalyan are the thermal mud baths which not only cleanses and tones the skin but is said to remedy rheumatism and has anti-ageing properties.
The ancient city of Caunos stands midway along the channel facing Dalyan. Settlement here is believed to date from 3000 BC by Caunos, the son of Miletos and it later grew into a major port on the border between Lycia and Caria. Sprawling over a broad sloping site overlooking the sea and the delta, the principal monuments to be seen in Caunos are the Acropolis surrounded by city walls, a theatre, four temples, an agora, stoa, nymphain, baths, palestra, churches and a cistern.

Guestbook for Kehribar Villa
My husband and I (a middle aged couple) spent Spring Bank holiday week at the villa with our son, daughter and their partners. It was ideal accommodation for our family. Lots of space for each couple to be by themselves if they wanted to and plenty of large seating and eating areas for family times together. The villa is in a lovely setting but not remote. The bikes were a huge advantage to cycle down to the mini market and the dolmush just a short walk down the lane. We would thoroughly recommend buying veg, egg s and milk ,straight frm the cow, from neighbours opposite. The Gunluk (picnic) restautaurant just down the track serves great food at very reasonable prices and staff are really friendly. We had a marvellous time and would love to return. May 2009
Excellent value for money, larger and more attractive than the pictures and completely satisfactory in its management, it is difficult for us to imagine how we have done any better. A terrific part of the world with so much to do and the management people right there to help you do it. It is very easy to feel a bit lost in a new place and this villa is not in the town so guidance is both necessary at the beginning and completely available. After that it's easy to get around when you can tear yourself away from your own mountain views around the villa. We had very hot weather but were well equipped with shady spaces and air-conditioning indoors. My nervousness about food and water was completely unfounded and the only thing I would do differently next time would be to go on even more trips- they are completely magical! A wonderful holiday for us all - Mum, Dad, 3 kids, 21, 17 and 5. Thanks to all the professionals who helped us along the way. August 2008
My husband and myself have just returned from an absolutely fantastic two weeks holiday at Kehribar Villa. The villa was an experience to remember, the décor, location and cleanliness was spot on and the pool and gardens were very clean and maintained to a very high standard.
The area was superb with stunning scenery and we truly enjoyed a most relaxing holiday which was not too far from any entertainment if you required.
We would certainly recommend Kehribar Villa and hopefully will be abl e to return again soon. Many thanks. Julie Tattersall June 2008
You can tell boutique-hoteliers own this property. It is immaculately furnished and equipped, and one of the most stylish, architecturally-designed properties near Dalyan. Set a mile away from the market town - with its lazy river snaking through lush, high cliffs - you start the day by the beautifully maintained pool with a view of mountains and the sound of birdsong.
It's the perfect base from which to explore - or not. We found it was perfectly possible to spend the day between hammock, pool and kitchen, perhaps with a bike ride up the nearby track to discover turtles, goats and fantastic dragonflies, while mountain streams enable you to cool your feet.
The property is exquisitely furnished, with cream cotton bed linen, marble floors, power showers and plenty of places to sit depending on the time of day. We would also recommend a trip to the famous beach, which entails a drive over the hills and a stop at one of the pancake places built on treehouse stilts over the valley. Sublime. Jane Warren April 2008
"I have travelled all over the world and very rarely does the accommodation exceed my expectation – Kerhibar did in every respect! I do not think your photos can do full justice to the villa or its very special location – Marmarli really does have a timeless quality. The management guys could not have been more helpful. – we will return!! Very best wishes Frank McLoughlin August 2007
I came with my daughter, her partner and my grand-daughter. I enjoyed my stay so much that I can't wait to come again. The villa is beautiful and the staff from Oruc were very friendly and helpful. It was my first visit to Turkey and I hope that it won't be my last! Thank you very much for making this a wonderful holiday for me and my family." Mark Andrews and family 2007
