Dalmellington is a small town on the edge of the Galloway forest, recently it has been given 'Dark Skies' status, making among the best star-gazing experiences in the world, and an observatory is currently being built on the Craigengillan Estate on the edge of the village. Horse-riders can bring their horses for stabling at the Estate or go out for a gentle ride around the beautiful countryside.
Loch Doon with its very own 14th century castle is a fabulous natural local attraction. The Galloway forest is fantastic for walkers and birdwatchers.
Troon and Turnberry golf courses are a short drive away and the Isle of Arran is a short hop on a ferry.
