The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

Ayrshire is the perfect place to visit if you want to experience Scotland- whether it be the beautiful coastal scenery; the rich and interesting history or the unspoiled Scottish landscapes and valley's, ayrshire is home to most of what Scotland has to offer. It is a lovely place to visit, with 60 miles of sandy beaches, world class restaurants with a wide range of local foods and wines and a host of cultural heritage, castles and historic buildings.

Dalmellington

Dalmellington is a small town on the edge of the Galloway forest, recently it has been given 'Dark Skies' status, making among the best star-gazing experiences in the world, and an observatory is currently being built on the Craigengillan Estate on the edge of the village. Horse-riders can bring their horses for stabling at the Estate or go out for a gentle ride around the beautiful countryside.

See: http://www.craigengillan.com/

Loch Doon with its very own 14th century castle is a fabulous natural local attraction. The Galloway forest is fantastic for walkers and birdwatchers.

Troon and Turnberry golf courses are a short drive away and the Isle of Arran is a short hop on a ferry.

"Chill out in Ayrshire"

Cottage is an ideal base for exploring Ayrshire and further afield e.g. Dumfries & Galloway.

To help decide where to go the cottage had the usual supply of booklets, flyers and with an keen interest in history there were a couple of excellent reference books of the village and surrounding area to be read.

Cottage can sleep up to 5 but still feels very cosy and intimate for couples looking for that week-end / short break to either chill out and appreciate what Ayrshire offers or for those looking for a base for outside activities/recreation.

Cottage is warm and inviting
Cold bottle of wine in the fridge was especially well received!

Plenty of towels provided and kitchen full of the expected appliances expected for self-catering.

Home cinema rather than the usual TV+DVD setup was a nice change and cottage well stocked with a choice of dvds The lack of tv was for us a particular reason to select the accommodation, managing to get a bit of reading done in peace without the usual din of tv(s) in the background.

Overall cottage offers good value for money and an ideal base for a variety of different party/group size and make-up.
We wanted a place to chill and that's exactly what we got!
