Little Bucksteep Oast
About the home
This cottage is truly magical, a picture postcard holiday cottage in an amazingly peaceful location. It is surrounded by the sound of birds and nature – there is absolutely no traffic noise here!
The cottage has been converted from an Oast house which was originally used for the drying and storing of hops. These are found in abundance in the Kent and East Sussex countryside.
The cottage has been recently refurbished and is furnished with a lovely selection of original antique pieces which complement the age and ambience of the property. A special feature must be the original curved oak front door leading into the spacious entrance hall which is in the roundel of the Oast.
The drawing room is elegantly furnished with two large beige sofas and many occasional antique tables and ornate lamps. A special feature is the wood burning stove, the perfect place to sit and enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the cottage. With leaded windows, oak panelling, exposed oak beams and some ragstone walls, this English country cottage is full of original character.
The kitchen dining room is light and spacious with a large door leading onto the private terrace – plenty of room for entertaining all the guests.
The master bedroom with its huge four poster bed is a wonderful feature of the cottage – with luxury linen and elegant bedspread you could imagine being in a romantic fairytale – waking up in a princess bed and looking out of a little leaded window in your round tower!
There is ample parking on the drive of the main house and an attractive stroll through the gardens leads to the picturesque cottage which has its own private grounds. There is also the added attraction of the swimming pool and tennis court which the owners are very happy to share with you during your stay.
The property has been rated 4 star by Visit England.

Further details indoors:
The cottage is approached by a path through the garden which is full of wonderful herbaceous plants.
The drawing room is furnished in beiges and creams with pretty floral curtains and coordinating cushions. Two comfy sofas and a beige and cream gingham armchair are grouped around the wood burning stove. With occasional antique side tables, lamps and nautical prints this room is very elegant. All windows look out over the garden, and there is a terrace door which leads onto a small private cottage garden, which is a haven for birds and flowers.
Next to the drawing room is a spacious double bedroom which is in the round part of the Oast. The room is elegantly furnished with 4'6 double bed, large chest of drawers and a dropped leaf oak table. There is hanging space available next to the bedroom in an understairs cupboard. Small windows look out over the pretty gardens.
Between the drawing room and the kitchen dining room is a small utility area with washing machine and storage cupboard housing the central heating boiler. There is also a downstairs WC and power shower which has recently been refurbished.
The kitchen dining room is quite stunning with exposed beams into the eaves, and modern lighting creating a wonderful effect. The kitchen is finished in cream painted wood with stylish wooden work surfaces and plenty of cupboards. The kitchen is well-equipped with fridge freezer, dishwasher, electric cooker, extractor fan and microwave. There is a back door from the kitchen with large area to hang coats, and shelves. The dining area has a large antique pine table which seats 8, an antique dresser and in one corner is a traditional oak Windsor chair. There is also a modern flat screen wall mounted TV and DVD player. Large doors lead onto the private garden and terrace with wooden table, chairs and barbeque.
An oak panelled and exposed rock staircase leads from the drawing room to the first floor. There are two bedrooms on the first floor and a family bathroom. The master bedroom is in the Oast section of the property creating a unique round room. The room’s main feature is the king-sized four poster bed in beautiful carved wood. Floaty cream swags on the bed and luxury linen create a truly romantic and magical feel to the room. There are pretty bedside tables and lamps as well as a small wardrobe. A small leaded window overlooks the private cottage garden.
The second bedroom has three beds, two wrought iron single beds with matching linen and gold throws as well as a separate single bed. There are pretty bedside tables, lamps and a spacious curtained hanging area. Beams abound throughout the cottage, and this bedroom is no exception.
The family bathroom has recently been renovated and has WC, basin and bath with a hand-held shower attachment. Views from the bathroom look towards the old orchard, swimming pool and tennis court.

The South East England / Sussex region

Sussex is a county in South East England which has a long coastal area. The coastal towns include Hastings, Brighton, Worthing and Bognor.
The weather in Sussex is some of the best in Great Britain: it has on average more sunshine than any other mainland county.
The Dallington / Little Bucksteep area
The cottage is nestled within the grounds of a beautiful period manor house surrounded by undulating English countryside about six miles from Heathfield.
Little Bucksteep is located on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Dallington, set well back from the lane down its own private drive.
This area of East Sussex offers so much for the holidaymaker to do. There are numerous National Trust properties from Batemans in Burwash which was the home of Rudyard Kipling, Scotney Castle in Lamberhurst and of course Sissinghurst Castle in Kent. For those visiting Glyndebourne the property is within a 30 minute drive.
The Bluebell Railway at Uckfield is a superb steam railway which for all ages provides a glorious day out and a wonderful way to see the local countryside.
Drusilla’s Park is widely recognised as the best small zoo in the UK (many would say Europe) and has earned that reputation by creating an animal and child-friendly environment. This is located at Alfriston and is again a short drive from the property. There are wonderful castles at Hever, Bodiam, as well as Historic Battle with its 1066 Battle of Hastings fame – history for the children will be brought to life.
The South Coast offers all the traditional seaside attractions, and towns such as Hastings and Eastbourne are well worth a visit. For quieter beach locations head for Winchelsea to the East and Pevensey Bay to the West.
Groombridge Place and Enchanted Forest, located just South of Tunbridge Wells, is a real favourite with families as it provides attractions that will appeal to every age group.
