The Dumfries and Galloway region

Dumfries & Galloway is one of the most beautiful and undiscovered parts of Scotland, those who discover it come back year after year but keep the secret to themselves.
Warmed by the gulf stream, the South West area of Scotland gets more than its fair share of sunshine.
Fantastic walking to suit all levels of fitness from gentle coastal strolls and easy countryside walks through to the more challenging and well known Southern Upland Way.
There are a number of cycling routes to suit cycling enthusiasts of all levels of ability. The area is home to a number of the famous "7 Stanes" mountain biking trails.
A short drive brings you to Loch Ken for a variety of water sport activities including power boating, water skiing, windsurfing, kayaking and other outdoor pursuits.
For nature lovers the area is one of the few places in the UK to see red squirrels. Deers and otters are common in the Galloway Forest Park and bird watching is available at the Mersehead nature reserve & Kippford.
The Dalbeattie / Kippford area
Creaggan Lodge is a short walk from the pretty sailing village of Kippford that has 2 pubs / restaurants serving good food.
Kippford is set along the banks of the Urr estuary. A traditional fishing village and is totally unspoilt, now a popular sailing village with many small boats & yachts moored in the harbour. There is nothing better that savouring the views sat outside one of the pubs with a glass of wine or a beer.
There are beautiful walks from the front door of the lodge through the forest and along the coast to Kippford and the nearby village of Rockcliffe.
Within a few minutes there is the beautiful and safe beach of Sandyhills with a cafe a and picnic tables. There are a number of golf courses - both 9 & 18 hole - where all are welcome. Other activities in the area include horse riding, fishing and of course sailing in Kippford.
If it rains, there is still lots to do from country houses, tea shops & gardens. Dumfries offers activities for the whole family including shopping, cinema, ice skating and an indoor leisure complex.
We hope you enjoy it as much as our other guests have!

Beautiful comfortable spacious high spec lodge, with stunning views. Lodge has everything you need for short/longer break, very well equipped. Marvellous. We were particularly impressed with the thoughtfulness of the owners. We were a group of 6 retired friends on a short break. We like to walk and did the two coastal walks from Kippford to Sandyhills and around Balcary Bay and Rascarrel Point. Superb. We would all highly recommend this accommodation. We self catered for 2 nights, bringing most our supplies with us but at owner's recommendation ate at The Anchort in Kippford on the third night and were not disappointed. |
Guestbook for Creaggan Lodge
The Lodge is beautifully finished and equipped with views to die for. We had a wonderful time having water skied, biked and golfed. I'm sure we will return.
The Sykes Family
I was just going to send an email saying how much we enjoyed our stay. The surrounding area is spectacular and the lodge itself is magnificent. The moment we drove round the corner and saw the lodge all the kids started yelling how much they loved us! From a group of 'Kevin the Teenagers' this is praise indeed. The lodge itself exceeded all our expectations and we have already started recommending it to our friends and family. We would also like to revisit, hopefully next year.

We had a wonderful stay at your lodge it was a real home from home and would definitely consider another trip back to the area as there was so much more we would have liked to have seen and done. Maybe next year !!

Thank you soo much for your beautiful house at Kippford.
We enjoyed every single minute and everything was just perfect.
It is a lovely countryside and very silent too so we relaxed and went seeing some nice places.
Also the sea was incredible and our two kids loved to catch crabs and little fishes.
We plan to come back next year and we all loved Scottland sooooo much.
