Craigshall Cottage is a modern, well insulated bungalow in the coastal village of Auchencairn which lies within the East Stewartry Coast National Scenic Area (Scottish equivalent of the English Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Fully renovated in the spring of 2007, it boasts a new kitchen with 'A' rated appliances (oven, hob, fridge, dish washer), one large double bedroom, one large twin bedroom and a huge, open plan, living/dining area with wood burning stove. We are happy to welcome multiple, well behaved dogs.

Craigshall Cottage has it's own, fully enclosed, garden to keep dogs and kids within sight but if you like to wander, you can go through the gate into the paddock and on to the burn and the Auchencairn Bay beyond. There is loads of space to park several cars or a boat on a trailer/horse box etc. If you are into off-road cycling then this is the place to be. We are centrally located for 5 of the 7stanes off-road trails. 7Stanes 'Scotland's Biking Heaven' is a network of purpose built forest and hill trails designed to offer graded rides through beautiful scenery.

The Dumfries and Galloway region

Visit mysterious castles and fascinating museums one day and enjoy mountain biking through forests the next. Dumfries & Galloway has so much to offer from art galleries, nature reserves and glorious gardens to Scotland’s National book town, in Wigtown.

Glorious Galloway FAB (food, art & books) web site where your Scottish holiday can be centred around Galloway`s three theme towns of food, art, books in this beautiful part of Dumfries and Galloway Scotland and so much more.....

Organic Food, Farmers markets, Shopping for Art, painting, pottery, glassware, Books of all kinds old and new, eating out, festivals and events and a Mountain bike heaven in the Galloway forests. Visit our Food Town Castle Douglas a busy and bustling market town, our Artists' Town, Kirkcudbright a traditional fishing town packed with summer activities and Festivals and our Book Town, Wigtown, with over two million books and its annual Scottish Book Festival ... all located in "Glorious Galloway" and surrounded by numerous other small towns and villages each one providing links and gateways into our history, routes through our fabulous scenery and access to the myriad of indoor and outdoor activities available throughout the seasons.

With approximately fifty local businesses involved in either producing or selling food and drink, it is easy to see why Castle Douglas has been designated a Food Town. The vibrancy and appeal of the town lies largely in the draw of the shops and cafés, restaurants and hotels.

In an age when consumers are often given conflicting advice about what food is good for them and which constituents they should avoid, it is refreshing that Castle Douglas offers high quality local produce which everyone can enjoy.

It is also of great economic benefit that the raw materials produced by local farmers get added value from being processed here and sold here.

We do hope you enjoy your visit, and that you find something to your taste!

As well as visiting Castle Douglas, we also highly recommend that visitors explore other parts of Dumfries and Galloway. The region offers a wide range of outdoor activities in beautiful rolling countryside, with many historic towns and villages, castles and historic buildings to discover.

As well as visiting Castle Douglas, we also highly recommend that Glorious Galloway is FAB !!! Explore other parts of Galloway and enjoy what the Artist & Book Towns also have to offer. This region offers a wide range of events & outdoor activities in beautiful rolling countryside, with many historic towns and villages, castles and historic buildings to discover.

"excellent family holiday accomodation"

Stayed at Craigshall Cottage for past five years and would highly recommend it. Excellent accomodation and location for children. This cottage has the benefit of being tucked away down a very quiet coastal road, yet it is within easy reach of Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and many of the tourist attractions in Dumfries and Galoway.
The cottage is spacious, clean and has everything you could want to make your stay comfortable. The owners have thought of everything and more!
Being next door, the owners are there if needed and nothing is too much trouble.
We intend to return and enjoy this beautiful part of Scotland again and when we do Craigshall will be our first choice.
