Sarigerme used to be the name of the beach, but gradually the name of the village, Osmaniye, seems to have become secondary and the resort has simply become known as Sarigerme. On the beach you will find water sports, sunbeds and a shady wooded picnic area.
Sarigerme itself is a tiny village, consisting of just the one street. This has shops, bars and restaurants as well as a chemist and a post office, and it gives you a fascinating insight into traditional Turkish village life. There is a small market in Sarigerme on Sundays and although this is worth a visit, if you want to experience the atmosphere of a real local market you are probably better off heading to Mugla on a Thursday, where you will see where the locals stock up on fruit, vegetables and spices.
The area around Sarigerme is very rural, your transfer from Dalaman airport will take you through some beautiful countryside where there are citrus trees and crops growing. Venturing further afield, the towns of Ortaca, Dalaman and Fethiye are all within easy reach. Or, why not take a boat trip from Gocek to visit the beautiful 12 islands, a very popular excursion. Dalyan, with its beautiful river estuary and stunning Turtle beach is just 30 minutes drive away, and from here you can also visit the popular Dalyan mud baths. There is plenty to do on days out - assuming, that is, that you actually feel the need to leave Sarigerme behind.
The Dalaman / Sarigerme area
The village of Sarigerme is about ten minute walk from Villa Garnishi.
There are several tour operators in Sarigerme offering a range of day trips and tours such as Jeep safari, white water rafting, boat trips specialising in the “12 Islands” Tour, as well as scuba diving and snorkeling, quad biking and horse riding.
If you choose to rent a car, there are many other opportunities opened up for you.
The town of Dalyan is less than 30 minutes away by car and the Turtle protection beach with its sanctuary is just 5 minutes further. Look out for the Giant Loggerhead Turtles which breed between May and August. It is possible to go on early morning viewing trips to the beach to feed the turtles.
From Dalyan, there is a fleet of boats that can take you along the river to Koyzegi lake, or to Iztuzu beach and thermal springs.
There is also a ferry to the ancient ruins of Kaunos and the cliff tombs.
The local towns of Dalaman and Ortaca are just 15 minutes away by car and offer a more extensive shopping experience.
Further along the coast, you can get to the Gocek yacht harbour in about 30 minutes where most of the boat trips around the islands depart. The boats will take you to swim in several picturesque locations. Some offer fresh fish barbecued on board. Definitely not to be missed.
The larger town of Fethiye is about 50 minutes from Sarigerme and is notable for its Fish Market, where you can choose your fish and then get it cooked to order.
The famous beach at Olu Deniz (the blue lagoon picture on nearly every Turkey holiday advert) is just the other side of Fethiye.
Further afield but still in day trip territory, try a ride to the spectacular Saklikent Gorge but go prepared to get wet!

We have just returned from Villa Garneshi and we will be returning as soon as we are able! This huge villa is very clean and spacious and it has everything that you will require for a fantastic, relaxing break . It's approx a ten minute walk from the village with a variety of restaurants, shops and tour operators and it is a further (short) tractor drive (!) away from the safe & clean beach. The weather was fantastic (35 - 45 degrees) every day and the large private pool was a welcome relief from the heat. (There was also access to the other shared pools if required.) It was great to get out of bed and have immediate access to the pool! The villa is in a perfect location for travelling to other nearby attractions and whilst we were there we hired a car and visited Fethiye (approx an hours drive), Oludeniz beach (one hour fifteen), the fantastic harbour / islands and boats at Gocek (approx 20 mins) and the wonderful waterways / mud baths/ Turtles and Temples near to Dalyan (approx 15 mins). The owners were very helpful in terms of our booking, answered all our queries and arranged transfers on our behalf. All in all we had a truly wonderful time and we cannot recomend the villa enough to others. With sincere thanks to David and his family for sharing it with us! |
