About this location
The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Dolman are available to travel cheaply to most places but a car is ideal for tourists. You are no more than an hour from most of the major tourist attractions so can easily travel, have a day sight-seeing and arrive back in time for dinner at a restaurant en-route. Or spend a morning sight-seeing and back for a swim in the afternoon or relax with a book either at the beach or the pool.
July & August is the hottest and you will be better with a sunshade on the beach or in the water or even a siesta
There are far too many beautiful places to be able to list them all - but our favourites are Dalyan and Gocek - beautiful restaurants and nothing better to sit and eat by the rivers in Dalyan.
Koycegiz Lake can be found in a 25 min drive. The paragliding centre is a 45 mins drive and horse riding 35 mins once again we have not made use of these.
The town is a 10minute walk and has cobbled streets and old fashioned shops - typically Turkish. On our last visit tourism had not properly arrived and neither had modern shops as we know them. They do have a supermarket at the end of the high street near the banks and opposite the taxi rank (which is very good) it has most items you could need with a good delicatessen
There is a daily charge for Saragarme beach which is entered on foot with parking within walking distance. With various activities offered throughout the summer months. Do take drinks with you when you go don't assume you can buy them. It is a beautiful area and great for children. One the Main road to the airport there are 2 side rounds which if followed take you to beautiful beaches that are quite isolated and used by the Turkish at the weekends and evenings, rock pools at one and views on the way down as well as a beach at the other
There are plenty of eateries in the town and Turkish tea is the normal drink (no milk and plenty of sugar in a tulip shaped glass). There is one place that sells beer (BAR). If you drink coffee ask for Nescafe with milk unless you like it thick and syrupy.
Excellent restaurants hidden away for night time eating on the main road leading into Dalaman where wine and local beers can be purchased. We can recommend any of the ones on the left and the right of the road for quality. Some of the menus are in English but not all. For a taste of their culture - experiment - ask if you want to know what it is and you wont be disappointed.
Self catering: On the road to Topala out of Dalaman you will find bakers (Turkish speaking) and grocers they also sell wines and spirits
The markets takes place weekly in each town on different days the local one has has great fruit and veg for self catering. Chili peppers(hot) and goats cheese are served as a starter in some restaurants and are sold by the kilo
Generally we have found the Turkish love the English and will go out of their way to help you but a Turkish hand book comes in handy once off the tourist track.
The Golf course has been built next to the Hilton hotel and is said to be a very good one (not being golfers cannot verify this it is approx 10 mins drive on road to the beach
The Banks of which there are many located near the square and taxis- English currency can be exchanged for Turkish at quite a good rate.
