A charming, newly renovated cottage in the pretty village of Dacre in The Lake District National Park. The cottage has loads of character with beams and stone stairway and lovely curtains and seagrass floors, all newly done. Rose Bank benefits from bio mass central heating so is always warm and cosy with lashings of hot water. It has been carefully restored and the kitchen dining room is well equipped and spacious. Quiet situation attached to the owners Grade II Listed house (rarely occupied) Sitting room has woodburner, books, TV, DVD player and games. with two comfy sofas and big log basket and lots of light through two large windows. The Lake District
The North of England is bordered by Scotland to the North (Edinburgh 1 hour 15 minutes by train from Carlisle), Northumberland Coast to the East with its wonderful sandy beaches, moorland and castles and by the Irish Sea to the west. It is a spectacular part of England encompassing wild landscapes, The Lake District and the Pennine Region, rich in wildlife and heritage with small market towns, historic houses, good pubs, fast flowing streams and mellow valleys.
The region has a host of activities as well as the popular outdoor ones, mainly walking, mountaineering, cycling, climbing, fell running, sailing ( boats can be hired), Great for children and families.
There are plenty of festivals, food, literary, jazz, art as well as country houses and gardens to visit. The Roman Wall and Vindalanda, The Eden Valley
The Lake District National Park is a spectacular area of mountains and lakes, ideal for exploring, walking, cycling - all outdoor activities. The nearest town is the market town of Penrith (10 minutes) where all provisions and shopping can be bought and the pretty Lake District market town of Keswick is a 20 minute drive away. There is a traditional market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays and lots of shops, bars, restaurants and outdoor shops. The wonderful Theatre by The Lake is there with its excellent productions and annual literary and film festivals. May sees the well known Keswick Jazz Festival and Mountaineering Festival. Coming up in August is the nationally renowned Potfest at Hutton in the Forest (20 minutes) where potters from all over the world exhibit in the grounds.
The immediate area around the cottage is the small village of Dacre with village pub. A gentle walk from the cottage takes you down a track to Dalemain Country House and Gardens (winner of garden of year award 2013), where you can have a meal of coffee and do a circuit back to the cottage. Ullswater Lake is two miles away and there are lots of pretty walks from the door. 2 miles away is Reghed with Imax screen, local crafts, frequent exhibitions, live screenings and family entertainment. There are unlimited opportunities for great walks and cycling in the Lakes and sailing boats, rowing boats and canoes can be hired from Ullswater. Dacre is superbly situated for enjoying the lakes and being in The Lake District National Park without the crowds.
