Home description

Our studio is on the second floor (served by lift and stairs) of the 4 star Sport Hotel.The hotel restaurant and bar
is open to all guests and additionally our guests have free use of the indoor swimming pool,sauna and steam room.For an extra charge there is a gym,massage centre,indoor tennis court and bike hire.

The apartment is a short walk to the village centre with its supermarket,banks,souvenir shops,tourist office,post office etc.The property is suitable for up to 2 adults and a teenager or child. (NB. for groups larger than 3 persons we are in contact with other owners of apartments in the same hotel).

The Upper Austria/Salzkammergut region

This wonderful area is the lake district of Austria with the most beautiful lakeside towns and villages to vist in the summer months - the lakes are clean and warm enough for swimming in the height of summer . In the winter time the mountain villages such as Gosau come into their own, surrounded by towering peaks and glaciers and with some of the best powder skiing found anywhere.

Dachstein West / Gosau area

Gosau in winter has the knack of attracting many skiers to its slopes without getting overcrowded.From its 2 main lifts (The Hornspitz chair lift and the new gondola lift) you can access 140km of interconnecting runs serviced by more than 40 lifts.There are many mountain huts serving traditional food and drinks (quite often with traditional entertainment too!).The authorities ensure that the runs are kept in good condition using snowmaking machines if needed even though the area gets more than its fair share of snow.At the terminal of the Hornspitz express you will find equipment hire,lift pass kiosks and a ski school and nursery slopes - excellent for children.

In addition there is cross country skiing,tobogganing,cleared winter walks and horse drawn sleigh rides.The free ski bus runs from outside the hotel and there are facilities for boot and ski storage also in the hotel.

Spring,summertime and autumn are all wonderful times to visit Gosau.In Spring as the snow clears away the valley comes into its own with a display of alpine flowers and a carpet of fresh green grass,the days warm as spring gives way to summer and now is the time to get out into the wonderful fresh air and join with other people in the many activities available such as,walking/hiking,climbing,bicycle riding (bikes can be hired locally),horse riding,swimming and fishing.

Now is also a good time to visit those lovely lakeside villages and towns such as Halstatt (a world heritage site), St.Wolfgang,Traunkirchen etc.and while you are there take a moment to admire the superb floral displays that adorn virtually every house.There are also other attractions such as the salt mines in Halstatt and the giant ice caves at Obertraun.In Gosau there is the breathtaking glacier lake which is well worth walking around (you can award yourself a strudel for that!) .

Autumn sees the landscape slowly turning to red and gold hues and the days getting shorter and cooler - ideal walking weather.

How to get there

Nearest airport is Salzburg (approx.1 hour by car),also close to Linz . Salzburg served by Ryanair,Thomsonfly & others.Linz served by Ryanair. Large choice of car hire companies at both locations (we tend to use Auto Europe). Good bus service from Salzburg - change at Bad Ischl for Gosau.
Taxis always available from Salzburg airport.

Our South facing balcony (with chairs) leads into the seating area where there is a comfortable sofa that opens out into a good size double bed (ideal for a young adult or 2 small children),there is also a TV and DVD player (DVDs not provided).Further into the room there is a large double bed,and a good sized wardrobe.There are also cushioned chairs and a small dining area.A door leads into a compact equipped kitchen ideal for preparing snacks and light meals.The separate bathroom with bath and shower over with plenty of hot water completes the apartment.Storage heaters keep the apartment warm & cosy.

Further details outdoors:
The balcony is wonderful,especially in summer when as the sun goes down you can sit with a glass of something realaxing and listen to the cowbells whilst gazing at the surrounding peaks,and when the sun does go down,the sky on a clear night is something to behold as without light pollution the sky is carpeted with stars -stunning!

The hotel restaurant has an extensive dinner menu and offers a substantial buffet breakfast,please give prior notice and pay the hotel directly for any restaurant meals traken.
A local tourist tax is payable to the hotel of 1.30 euros per day per adult and 0.43 euros per day per child.
