See the Tour de France leave Carcassonne on 22 July 2014. This week is still available at Les Libellules.

This comfortable, well furnished gite is part of a restored farmhouse dating back over 200 years to around the time of the French Revolution. The property offers good quality family accommodation, with one large double bedroom and a twin bedded room. Both bedrooms offer lovely views across the extensive gardens to the wooded valley. The main living room and principal bedroom both open out onto the private terrace.

Situated on the edge of the village it is nonetheless within easy walking distance of the boulangerie and village shops, bar, restaurant, etc.

The gite is a superb base for those who wish to explore the two magnificent World Heritage sites of the Canal du Midi and the fairytale Cite de Carcassonne with its 54 turrets, explore the beautiful countryside of part of France, delve into its fascinating history, or simply sit on the terrace in the sun, or in the shade of the old walnut tree, with a good book and a glass of wine.

The local area also has many miles of walks, paths and bridleways some starting quite literally from the front door making it an excellent base for both serious walkers and those who prefer a stroll in the woods after dinner.

If a beach is your preference, there are also lovely sandy bathing lakes within half an hour of the gite.

Wander into the peaceful village in the warm sunshine for your croissants from the boulangerie, visit the amazing book town of Montolieu, just a few miles away, with its ancient little cottages perched on the edge of the ravine. Taste the local wines at one of the many "Domaines" close by, or perhaps visit one of the many Cathar castles, some just a few minutes away by car. ... or maybe just relax in the garden in the warm evening sunshine with a good book - the choice is yours. There is so much to do in this region that you will want to come back again and again.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, steeped in history, and bathed in the glorious sunshine of the south of France. There is truly something for everyone here, the wild open moorland of the "garrigue", to the carefully tended vineyards of the Cabardes and the Minervois, and the majestic Montagne Noire - the Black Mountain.

With two World Heritage sites and so much to do, it is difficult to single out specific activities for attention. Steeped in history from the earliest times, the stunning mediaeval Cité de Carcassonne with its turrets and towers, is a sight not to be missed; the Canal du Midi meandering peacefully all the way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean.

Whatever your interests - golf or walking, horseriding or white water rafting, history or wine tasting, museums or natural history - you will find it here.

Cuxac Cabardès is a pretty village with its own shops and boulangeries, and restaurant/bar, nestling in the foothills of the Montagne Noire. "Les Libellules" is peacefully situated overlooking open countryside on the edge of the village, just a pre-breakfast stroll from the boulangerie and other facilities.

There is so much to do and see - the Gouffre de Cabrespine, the deepest chasm in Europe; the Grottes de Limousis, spectacular underground caves with crystals that are found nowhere else on earth; the Cathar castles of Lastours just 15 minutes away by car, horseriding from just outside the village, wonderful walking quite literally from the cottage door, not to mention the two World Heritage sites of La Cité de Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi. Why not cycle along the towpath of the Canal du Midi, or visit the market in Revel, where local produce changes hands. Chickens, ducks and goats, the small farmer who has a glut of tomatoes, cheeses, locally produced honey or goats milk - all are found here.

In early spring the moorland or "garrigue" is covered with wild flowers, the woodlands filled with wild anemones, and later the poppies fill the fields; buzzards may be seen hunting overhead, and an abundance of small birds, butterflies, and other wildlife may be spotted in the hedgerows and paths.

In July most years the Tour de France passes close by, and on occasion it has even skirted the edge of the village. Also in July is Bastille Day. The Bastille Day firework display on 14 July is set against the magnificent backdrop of Cité de Carcassonne and is reputed to be one of the finest displays in France. Get a grandstand view, and take a picnic on the banks of the River Aude.

Every August the village hosts the biggest Fete in the area, lasting for several days and finishing with a huge party and firework display. Visitors are welcomed and encouraged to join in.

September and October are the seasons of mellow fruitfulness, with the grape harvests and beautiful colours of the vines and the woodlands, clear warm days and cool evenings. Often, later in the Autumn, you may see the most stunning views across Carcassonne to the snowcapped Pyrennées.

.... there is just so much more to this area, a week or two will not be enough to do everything ... you will want to come back... everyone does !

"Comfortable, clean and quaint gite, beautiful large garden, ideal base for exploring the region."

Set on the edge of the village, Les Libellules is a lovely house, fully equipped with everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. There is a wonderful, private, large garden with… More

"Clean and lovely Gite with lots of thoughtful extras"

I went on holiday with my partner and my parents for a week in May. The gite had good directions but we should have looked up the meaning of the name of the gite! If we had we would have known we were in the right place (there was a picture of a dragonfly on the gate but no name!

The gite was very clean and had everything and more than we needed. I enjoyed the books that were there and the kitchen had very clean good quality pots and pans. The firewood was also really nice as we did have some cold evenings.

The only issue we had was the layout of the rooms - as two couples it did work out ok - but I think it's better suited to a family. (you have to go through one bedroom to get upstairs) The location is fantastic with a lovely restaurant in the village and it's nice and peacful. We really enjoyed our week and got to see lots of places near and far.

"Comfortable and Welcoming"

We loved this place…. We were made so very welcome by everybody. Situated close enough to enjoy the facilities of Carcassonne and the Cathar region, but peacefully situated in the quaintest little village, we had the best of both worlds.

We relaxed in the garden under the shade of the walnut tree with a book and a glass of wine - and we did completely relax. We didn't want to leave this comfortable, homely gite with its pretty views, but all good things must come to an end. We shall be back next year !

Thank you,it is a very friendly village. Don't miss visiting the Chateaux de Las Tours, next time you come - can't believe you didn't get time to see it - especially as it is only a few kms! We look forward to seeing you again, and remember, there is a 10% loyalty discount for returning customers to either property.

"A gem of a gite!"

Set in the picturesque village of Cuxac Cabardes, "Les Libellules" proved to be a comfortable ocean of calm after a hectic day's sightseeing. And there's lots to see and do in the surrounding area! The gite itself is large and well equipped. The patio area and garden are ideal places to relax over a meal and glass, or two, of wine. I've been to the gite twice and it just gets better! If you are visiting the area, "Les Libellules" is a gem of a place to stay.

There certainly is a lot to do in this area, and we like to help our guests to enjoy it all, by providing the right environment for them to relax and chill out. We are very pleased to welcome you back, and trust we shall see more of you in the future !
