The Limousin / Auvergne / Haute-Vienne region

Temperate climate with warmest months in May June July August and September. The limousin area is famous for it's forests, porcelaine and beef. There are many local chateaux and historic places of interest. It is also an ideal base for exploring the whole of central France with the Loire Valley a couple of hours drive to the north-west and the wine famous Bordeaux area can be reached within a few hours.

Cussac area

Cussac lies on the route Richard Coeur de Lion - a 180 kilometer route through the Limousin countryside which links 16 sites open to visitors, These sites include chateaux, castles and fortified monasteries which fell within Richard's kingdom as Duke of Aquitaine. A large farmers market is held each Wednesday at Piegut Pluviers and on Friday in Chalus (place of Richard the Lionheart's death). Limoges itself is famous for it's porcelaine and there are several porcelaine factories you can visit and purchase souveniers. The martyr village of Oradour sur Glane is approx 40 mins drive. The whole village has been preserved as a monument to the 642 residents who were rounded up, murdered and their bodies burned by the Waffen SS on 10th June 1944. The area of Cussac offers you beautiful walking trails, cycling, horse riding, swimming and fishing in the lakes.

How to get there

Cheap flights available from Ryan air flying from Stansted direct to Limoges International airport or FLYbe from Southampton to Limoges International airport. Car hire available at the airport for approx £30 per day. Cussac is 40 mins drive south west from airport.
