Cumeada farmhouse is located in the heart of unspoilt, peaceful & untouristy Portugal.
It's situated on the outskirts of the small village of Cumeada, with just one shop & bar. Quiet and peaceful, yet only five minutes drive from the larger town of Serta with it's restaurants, cafes, shops, market & supermarkets. It is also only 15minutes drive from the Zezere watersports centre - www.centronauticozezere.com/homepage_english
with it's restaurant/cafe, boat/kayak hire & wakeboarding.
The farmhouse benefits from its own private pool & garden. It has a large, partly covered patio/barbecue area, perfect for alfresco dining, plus an area for games of badminton or swing-ball! The pool area at the top of the garden has a separate pool house with two walk in showers, bathroom & laundry area.
Finally, because of it's rural location, it has the most fantastic sky at night!

Rustic in style, very Portuguese, but still comfortable. It is not luxurious, but has everything needed for a fantastic holiday.
Small kitchen, with single gas oven & rings. One bathroom in the house, with small shower. Large bathroom & two walk in showers in the pool-house.
Spiral staircase from lower floor to kitchen, so not suitable for those with walking difficulties or of a
larger frame.
Rooms downstairs are built into the hill, so no windows, other than in the stable doors. There is one lounge and one large double bedroom. Rooms are cool during summer months, as walls are made of stone & a wood burner for cooler evenings. There is a DVD player in the lounge, with a good stock of DVD's to watch, books & games.
Upstairs, there is one double bedroom room + small double bedroom attached (ideal for parents with young children) & one small twin bunk bedroom. The house bathroom is upstairs at present, with a view to having another one built downstairs in the near future.
Further details outdoors:
Rustic farmhouse on two floors. Adequate living space in house, but made up for the gardens, patio & barbecue area.
Most of the living is done outside, with large eating area, barbecue, TV (Portuguese television), hammocks & patio furniture. Inside is only really used for sleeping & the occasional food preparation!
The area is very hilly, so benefits from cooling breezes when the summer temperatures reach their maximum of high 30s.

Not luxurious, but loads of character & quirky! Extremely peaceful, but with good access to Lisbon (2hrs), Tomar (45mins), River-beach (15mins) & Serta (5mins).

Lovely rural area of central Portugal. Very unspoilt, untouristy & probably one of the cheapest areas to eat out in Europe! A main course at the local river restaurant is around EUR$4, deserts at EUR$2 & a reasonable bottle of wine for EUR$3! Friendly locals, though limited English is spoken. Local restaurants do, now, have menus with English descriptions & there is a new Chinese restaurant in town!
Ancient towns, such as Tomar, Coimbra, Castelo de Vide & Marvao are easily accessible for a days trip out.
The highlight though, is the local river-beach at Trizio, only fifteen minutes away. It's a lovely, freshwater & perfect for swimming, kayaking or wake-boarding. There's also a pedalo for hire, cafe/bar on site, children's playground & ice creams!
The Cumeada area
The local village of Cumeada has an annual Festa, with live music, stalls & entertainment. Vila de Rei (20mins) also has a good festa & Serta has various festas, including a seafood Fest & "Rock n Serta" music festival in August.
Tomar is a hidden gem, with it's history of Knight Templars, Convento de Cristo & gardens. The town is lovely to wander around cobbled streets & has a good selection of shops.

Easy access from either Lisbon or Porto by plane. There is a good selection of daily Easyjet / Ryanair / TAP & BA flights from most UK airports.
2hrs drive from Lisbon, 2.5hrs from Porto.
Also accessible via ferry from Portsmouth/Plymouth to Santander/Bilbao for self drive down through Spain (7hrs approx).
