The Scottish Highlands region

The Royal Burgh of Cullen is a charming historic fishing village located overlooking Cullen Bay on the Moray Firth coastline in the northeast of Scotland. This picturesque village is divided into two sections including Seatown in the lower section, which features many colourful and quaint traditional fishing cottages, and the upper section where most of the village amenities are located including an array of shops and cafes. Cullen is the home of the culinary delight "Cullen Skink" which is a well-known traditional soup made from smoked haddock, potatoes, onions and milk. As well, the Ice Cream Shop in Cullen is famous for its quality ice cream and its wide array of jarred sweets and is a favourite of both locals and visitors to Cullen.

Cullen has a fabulous sandy beach which has been recognized previously by the EU as being of the highest standard in Europe and is home to the much photographed rock strata of The Three KIngs. The Cullen Golf Club is located along the beach and provides what has been described as a challenging little clifftop and beach level links course like no other for its quirkiness but still suitable for golfers of all skill levels. There are three majestic Railway Viaducts in Cullen dating from 1886 which act to define the village and have also been the subject of many photographers. They are no longer in use but are now a popular walking and cycling route along which you might be lucky enough to spot a dolphin or even a minke whate in the Bay!

Cullen is suitable destination for old and young alike. Water sports, nature watching, golf, cycling, walking or just browsing through the shops - there is something for everyone.

Cullen

The Banffshire Coast is home to a diversity of wildlife and beautiful rugged landscapes and has a relatively mild climate. The area is rich with history and heritage based on fishing and agriculture which provides the foundation for many excellent visitor attractions and festivals celebrating the traditions of the area. Cullen provides a terrific base for attractions such as the Malt Whiskey Trail and the Castle Trail which are only a short drive away.

"Excellent holiday home"

This holiday home has everything that can be available. Great accommodation. Everything that you would require in the kitchen. Superb room spaces. Dinning room and living room are spacious and the view from the home across cullen bay is unrivalled. Add to this the gazebo, decking with table and chairs and then the barbie area, then this is palace that we will return to for a relaxing week and recommend to all our friends.

We're so glad you felt Hill Crest "has it all" because that's exactly what we have aimed for - a holiday home in an incredible location that has everything you might need for a comfortable and pleasant vacation. See you next summer!

"I feel privileged to have spent time in such a beautiful location"

Last minute as usual but in need of somewhere to stay that had all the facilities we needed, I was ready to book anything. I couldn't believe my luck when I managed to book a week at Hillcrest.
Selma and Rob where the perfect hosts and made us feel at home. Every window boasts the most amazing sea views. The cottage makes you wish it was simply your own home.

I felt great sense of gratitude every morning I woke up to be in such a wonderful place.

Thank you!

Such a passionate review! We're so glad the cottage was available for you and that you found it to be all you hoped for. Hill Crest is a great place to stay in a beautiful area.

"A slice of heaven on the Moray coast."

Our stay at Hillcrest exceeded all of our expectations. We arrived on the 28th December 2013 to a warm welcome from Selma and Rob. The house was cosy and welcoming after a long drive. The welcome basket of goodies had everything one would need...including chews for the dog, fresh eggs from their own hens and bubbles to celebrate the New Year, not forgetting a couple of drams of whisky. Hillcrest has been finished to a very high standard and it is evident that considerable care and attention has gone into every single detail. The location was ideal and views from the house breath taking. This property is 5 star but with a very personal touch. If you are looking for quality and comfort in a magical location you have found it in Hillcrest.

Thanks so much for such a wonderful review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Hill Crest and brought in 2014 in Cullen. We hope to see you again soon!

"Perfect!!"

The house was beautiful and had everything you could need. It was clean and very comfortable. The deck outside was amazing - lovely views! The location was fantastic for local amenities and the costal path & old railway line for great walks. We all had a great long weekend and plan to stay again.

Thanks for another great review! We knew when we first saw Hill Crest ourselves we had found a gem and are really enjoying sharing it with our guests. We shall look forward to your next visit.

"Exceptional quality"

Where can I start, it was really nice of Selma & Rob to meet us at the property and show us around, the house was spotless and full of the creature comforts that made it feel like a home.
The kitchen deserves a mention, fully equipped and with a welcome basket that meant we did not have to shop immediately. The bedrooms are specious and very comfortable. The Bathrooms are well equipped although the showers can lose power if the washing machine is on at the same time!
Cullen , itself is quite picturesque, but quiet specially on a Monday and Tuesday. Two good places to eat in the town are the 3 kings (closed Monday and Tuesday) and the Crannock Hotel (although this is up for sale). I was a little disappointed in the Cullen hotel with very slow service although the food was good and the view excellent.
There are convenience stores in Cullen but the nearest supermarket is in Buckie some 6 miles away. Lots of places to go if you do not mind using the car, I would recommend the whisky distilleries, Elgin and further afield Aberdeen & Inverness are worth a visit
One of the best moments, however was sitting on the decking in the sun and watching the dolphins through the binoculars thoughtfully provided
All in all I would recommend this place to every one

We are so glad that you enjoyed your holiday. We take pride in the presentation of our cottage and make every effort to provide a comfortable homely environment. Cullen is a quiet little village which is part of its charm. We are pleased you were able to experience some fine dining and enjoyed exploring the area. Hope to see you next year!
