Home description

La Mignonne is a 400 year old fairytale cottage set in the heart of an historic village (Cry sur Armancon), moments away from the Armancon river and the beautiful Burgundy canal.

Once through the front door, you will immediately discover La Mignonne's most special feature - a stone spiral staircase rumoured to have been stolen from the ruins of a local chateau in 1604. A door to the left leads you into a cosy and comfortable sitting/dining area with enormous stone fireplace and woodburning stove, ancient oak beams and exposed stone walls. The kitchen area is newly fitted and makes catering for yourself a real pleasure.

Imagine yourself in a medieval castle as you climb the stone staircase and open the first door to reveal a charming en-suite bedroom with its own wood burning stove, and pedestal bath.

Back out onto the staircase, and a second flight leads you to a stunning beamed attic room - a light and airy space for relaxing in, or for use as a second bedroom sleeping up to three extra guests.

Outside there is a pretty and completely private courtyard, ideal for outside dining.

The Burgundy / Yonne region

The Yonne region of Burgundy is largely rural and unspoilt, with acres of woodland and gently rolling hills. There are many lovely things to see and do without spending hours in queues or being jostled by crowds. Its best known town is probably Chablis, surrounded by the famous vineyards. Cry has easy access to the Cote d'Or region (including Dijon), the Morvan National Park, and is only a 40 minute drive from southern Champagne.

Cry sur Armancon area

Cry sur Armancon has a population of just 180, but it is a strong community, with a penchant for socialising - their Fete de Saint Jean celebrations in June are renowned throughout the area!

The most notable features of the village are the bridge over the Armancon which dates from the 15th century, the 11th century crypt in the church, which has been classified as an historic monument, and La Mignonne itself, which in the past has featured on postcards of the village - already described in 1900 as an 'ancienne maison' !

There is a bar and restaurant in the village, run by the ever-charming Vincent and Maria. Cycle and canoe hire are available from '3B tourisme' based just around the corner.

The Burgundy canal is a 2 minute walk away (up a tree lined avenue) and offers fantastic opportunities for walking and cycling. The surrounding countryside is gentle, green and wooded. It is common to see red deer as well as a wide variety of other animal and bird species.

The following places of interest are all within an hours drive of the village, on quiet roads through beautiful countryside (journey times given in brackets):
