The Brittany region
Driftwood is situated at Kergalet, a tiny sleepy hamlet just outside Crozon and about six miles from Camaret-Sur-Mer. The peninsular of Presqu'ile de Crozon measures 20 by 8 miles and is a national park.
The scenery changes from towering cliffs at Point Espangnois to beautiful sandy beaches which stretch for miles. The area is largely undiscovered as tourists tend to by-pass it on their way south.
There are numerous delightful walks in forests and moors, and about 100 miles of coastal footpath around the Presqu'ile to explore.
Our nearest village with a bakery is Lanveoc about 1.5 miles away, and the town of Crozon with supermarkets and shops, cafes, bars and restaurants is just two miles away.
Slightly further afield is enchanting Camaret with numerous restaurants, bars and cafes. Camaret is also famous for its artists' quarter and fort and church on the breakwater.
BEACHES: We have 12 safe, sandy beaches and coves within 9km. All have golden sand and clear water for swimming.
BIKING:The Presqu'ile de Crozon (which is part of the Parc d'Armorique) has a huge number and variety of lanes and paths criss-crossing the peninsula, many of which can be used by cyclists. These include the 145km coastal footpath which winds its way around the whole peninsula. Cycling a section can be great fun.
CAVE KAYAKING (5km): For a really good, adventurous day try kayaking in the sheltered waters of Morgat Bay and visit the many sea caves. All equipment can be hired from Morgat (5km).
DIVING: Camaret-sur-Mer (7km) is renowned for its clear water diving on the many wrecks and reefs in our area. The diving school at Camaret can provide lessons and all the gear you need.
FISHING (boat and rock):With 145km of coast to choose from, rock fishermen will be completely spoilt. There are also fishing trips running out of Camaret-sur-Mer that bring back fish every day.
GOLF:There is a golf driving range 4km from the gites.
MARKETS: Crozon (4km) has a market on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, and Morgat (5km) on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Both have numerous stalls selling local produce including cheeses, meats, vegetables, locally caught fish, and local art and craft.
PAINTBALLING:We have a paintball park plus other attractions including a maze near Morgat (5km).
RESTAURANTS: Many restaurants specialise in locally caught fish and seafood. Camaret-sur-Mer (7km) has over 30 restaurants to choose from clustered around the picturesque harbour. Morgat (5km) has about a dozen restaurants to choose from, most looking over Morgat Bay. Crozon has the recommended 'Le Mutin Gourmand' restaurant if you fancy splashing out one evening!
SAILING:Camaret-sur-Mer (7km) and Morgat (5km) with their fantastic sailing waters are both major sailing harbours where one can hire dinghies, windsurfers and catamarans on a daily or weekly basis.
SURFING:We have some wonderful surfing beaches on the Crozon peninsula, all within 8km, an a couple of surf schools in Camaret.
SWIMMING POOL (5km):Morgat has a lovely heated swimming pool with flumes.
TENNIS (2km):Tennis courts can be hired nearby.
WALKING:The Parc d'Armorique has numerous walks including the wonderful 145km coastal footpath which winds its way around the whole of the Presqu'ile de Crozon. We provide walking maps.

"I'm definitely visiting again"
Wonderful beaches, romantic sea-side towns, beautiful countryside, very spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation. Quiet and beautifully located cottage, only a few minutes from the nearest boulangerie and a short drive from some of the loveliest beaches we have ever visited. We have already booked our next holiday there!
