The lounge is a light, sun-drenched room, with patio doors opening directly onto the terraced garden, letting in the summer breezes. There are two large, comfortable sofas (one is a double sofa bed), ideal for relaxing in front of the flat screen TV with Sky package. A DVD player along with an iPod docking station are also provided. The real oak flooring and under floor heating together with the Victorian fireplace provide cosy warmth on cooler evenings. You will also find some local maps and walking guides in the lounge. In LOOKOUT there is plenty of entertainment. For outside fun there is a paddling pool and, should the weather be under par, there are lots of board games, books, toys and Lego. The Sky TV package includes all the Children’s channels and there is a selection of DVDs.
Inside LOOKOUT there are helpful items for the family such as stair gates, high chair, sterilizer, bottle brush, blender and cot (with sheet, please bring your own grow-bag / blankets), also, kid’s cutlery and crockery have been thoughtfully provided.
KITCHEN
Downstairs, the large kitchen/diner has underfloor heated slate tiles so you can wander around in bare feet and feel luxuriously warm! The brand new fitted kitchen has a fully integrated fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster and is fully equipped for preparing dinner parties, barbecue snacks or just the basics - you can't beat the coffee grinder and fresh coffee beans for an early morning wake-up! The kitchen is perfect on sunny mornings with the sun streaming in through the windows. Enjoy a large family breakfast before hitting the beach, or brunch with friends after a night at The Thatch!
BEDROOMS
There are 3 bedrooms, all of which have quality mattresses and high thread-count luxury cotton bed linen - giving you a great night's sleep in any room.
Bedroom 1, the master bedroom, is a large king-sized room with a solid oak chest of drawers and bedside tables, bedside lamps, and hanging space. Wake up to the beautiful views of the hills and countryside that surround Croyde.
Bedroom 2 is a twin room with matching dark wood beds, chest of drawers and bedside table, decorated tastefully in chocolate browns with white linen.
Bedroom 3 has adult sized bunk beds - and like the twin bedroom it has spectacular views across the dunes towards the sea.
BATHROOM & SURF ROOM
The modern bathroom has a simple stylish white suite with a shower over the bath, shaver point and heated travertine flooring.
A further WC downstairs completes the main house accommodation.
The garage has been converted into a fantastic surfer’s utility room. There is a large hot walk-in shower - go straight-in after surfing and take off your wetsuit in the warm! There is also a big laundry sink for washing wetsuits and a hanging rack to dry them. In addition, there is a large surfboard rack (with enough height for 10ft long boards...sorry boards not included!) and a tumble drier.
There is also plenty of storage space for golf clubs, buggies and all your beach equipment! Our guests love this versatile room which is great for surfers, families, golfers and walkers alike.
Further details outdoors:
The terraced west-facing garden is a sun-trap year round and has some lovely established plants including bamboo, camellia and vines. You will hear the sounds of birds singing and, in the distance, the waves breaking on Croyde beach. With a small grass lawn on the lower level for playing games, playing in the paddling pool or lounging, and shade under the large umbrella on the top terrace for enjoying cool drinks, the garden makes a lovely alternative to the beach. Later in the evening, enjoy sunset al fresco dining, the outdoor fireplace is there to keep you warm when the sun dips out of sight.
All the local beaches are great for surfing, each with their own characteristics and advantages. The variety of surf within a five minute drive makes Croyde an outstanding location for surfers. There is something for everyone: great beginners’ waves, peeling long board waves, punchy barreling beach breaks and a rocky point break.
For the Family: We know what it is like getting out of the house with kids, so to make it even easier you can use The Lookout’s Red Wagon! You can use it to transport all your beach goodies and / or the kids to the beach and the big wheels mean you can even pull it across soft sand. We have provided a family cool box, parasol, windbreak, body boards and a selection of beach games so you don’t have to cart all of yours from home (we know there is already no space in the car!).

The West Country / Devon region
North Devon is one of the most beautiful areas of the British Isles. It boasts miles of unspoilt and award winning beaches. The coastline is one of the most popular surfing venues in the country, with Croyde being the most popular.
The coastline is as rugged as it is beautiful dotted with magnificent cliffs, tiny cove and picturesque harbours. It was once the haunt of smugglers, pirates and wreckers and the fascinating history is retold in many small museums along the coast. Today visitors who love Henry Williamson's famous Tarka the Otter can retrace Tarka's journey by following the Tarka Trail.
Along the coastline surrounding a natural harbour is Ilfracombe with its Victorian architecture, Esplanade and famous Tunnels Beach. The harbour is always busy with fishing boats sailing in and out together with the paddle steamer Balmoral which offers day trips to Lundy Island. North Devon has something to offer and appeal to everyone.
There are activities available for all ages. For children there are fun attractions such as 'The Big Sheep' and 'Dinosaur World'. For the sports fan, there is golf, horse riding, cycling, surfing, kayaking, rock climbing and many other activities all within a 40 minute drive from Barnstaple, the region's major town.
Looking for a North Devon Holiday Cottage or Self Catering Holidays in Devon then you are at the right place!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Lookout. We are a family with 2 young kids and we also had our au pair with us. The house is set up very well, especially with the wet room (i.e. garage) including... more |

Beautiful, trendy and clean house. Great location for croyde and the beach and has everything in the house you'll need for a holiday with kids. One word of caution don't be fooled by the info on the booking agents website about needing to pay extra for high chairs etc ...... They are already in the house but the booking agent will tak your money anyway! |

Great central location allowing easy access to pubs and shops, beach and walks. The house is clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay very much. Only downsides for us: bunk room really only suitable for children and we would have preferred shower room to be within house, especially as weather was not perfect. Other than that, we would recommend The Lookout. |
