About the home

Pickwell Manor is a stunning period manor house set in the heart of the countryside in the hamlet of Pickwell, yet within easy reach of the beach and the popular destinations of Croyde and Woolacombe. On site there are 6 acres of wonderful gardens and grounds including an Italian garden, walled garden and areas of woodland. There is also a tennis court and games room.

The Manor has been sensitively converted into 9 units ranging from one to three bedrooms. 'Amity' is a amall but unique cottage that has been finished to a very high standard. It is a perfect hideaway whether for a romantic weekend; a walking holiday; a surfing holiday or simple space to unwind and explore North Devon.

'Amity' provides the perfect hideaway for couples. Tucked away in a charming corner of this historic manor house, Amity is a small but beautiful cottage that has been converted this summer and is packed with character. It 's design blends the contemporary with the traditional - beach hut meets Manor House!

The bedroom is situated on a 'Heidi' style mezzanine floor that is assessed via a ladder and is partitioned with wood bannisters from a local forest. You are able to literally climb into bed each night! The lounge is bright and has a calm and tranquil feel - the perfect place to relax after a day walking or on the beach. There is also a separate fully fitted kitchen and an impressive contemporary bathroom.

(please note that due to the ladder assess to the bedroom 'Amity' is not suitable for children, the elderly or anyone with mobility problems)

Being part of the Manor house 'Amity' has the advantage of providing a secluded holiday cottage whilst also offering many advantages of being in a large Manor house (6 acres of gardens, Tennis court, terrace with seaviews, ample parking, amazing rural / coastal setting).

You will have access to the Manor's main terrace where you can eat and drink whilst looking out over the sea towards Hartland point. There is also a separate decked area for barbecues. Tennis rackets and balls are available if you wish to play tennis.

There is plenty of room amongst the 6 acres of grounds to find space and to explore the historic gardens.

Further details

Changeover day is usually Friday to Friday. Shorter breaks may be avaiable when there is late availability. Please not the apartment is not suitable for children or the elderly.

Conditions

Bookings are normally from Friday to Friday, but we can accommodate weekend guests outside of peak season.

The West Country / Devon region

The North Devon Coast boasts spectacular scenery and beautiful beaches whatever the season.The beaches are recognised as possibly some of the finest and cleanest in Europe - with two miles of soft golden sand, plenty of rock pools and amazing surf. The area of Saunton, Croyde, Georgeham and Woolacombe are in the heart of the Gold Coast and the best beaches in North Devon. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

There are a number of local golf courses, the closest being Willingcott just 2 miles away near Woolacombe or Saunton Golf Club located at Saunton Sands which is just the other side of Croyde. Other activities available in the area include kite surfing, running, cycling including the Tarka Trail cycle path, wake boarding, fishing and volleyball.

There are plenty of activities for children apart from the beach. There are good local parks, indoor play centres, museums, swimming pools and a Wildlife and Dinosaur park in nearby Combe Martin. There are also lots of interesting places to go for day trips including Lundy Island. Lynton and Lynmouth, Instow, Clovelly and Appledore are pretty Devon seaside villages and Barnstaple offers good shopping.

There are fishing trips available from Ilfracombe Harbour, Combe Martin, Appledore and Lynmouth and at Instow there is the North Devon Yacht Club with a boat park and slipway with excellent Cadet Training undertaken during the summer months.

The Croyde / Georgeham area

The beaches at Putsborough, Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands are all very popular surfing beaches, they also offer fantastic expanses of sands and rock pools at low tides so are suitable for all beach games or simply lounging on a hot day. All the beaches have beach car parks if you don’t want to walk across the fields.

Ther are plenty of places to go for dinner in the evenings between Georgeham, Croyde, Braunton and Woolacombe. Locally the Lower House has an excellent restaurant, serving fantastic gastro food, and there are also a number of takeaway options – Lemon Grass Thai restaurant in Braunton is highly recommended for eating in or takeaway. There is also the Marisco Disco in Woolacombe for dancing.

From Junction 27 of the M5 take the A361 to Barnstaple and then continue on this road to Braunton. At the traffic lights in Braunton take a left on the B3231 to Croyde and then on to Georgeham. Turn left at The Lower House in Georgeham signposted for Putsborough. Then after half a mile turn right on a lane signposted for Pickwell. Turn in to the entrance to Pickwell Manor Farm which will be on your left and then proceed straight on to the entrance to Pickwell Manor.
