The West Country region
The North Devon coastline is as rugged as it is beautiful. For spectacular scenery and beautiful beaches whatever the season, there's no better place in England and in particular the beautiful golden surf beaches of Putsborough, Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton; the amazing coastal cliffs, some of the highest in Britain, rising to over 800' above the sea. Then there's the lush green rolling countryside for which Devon is so famous and the deep wooded valleys around Lynton with ancient oaks and rivers tumbling over giant boulders. Then of course the rugged wilderness of Exmoor - quite breath-taking in its desolation. Not forgetting the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Braunton Burrows, the fishing port of Appledore, still landing locally caught fish and Ilfracombe now boasting Damien Hirst's 65' sculpture, Verity.
Places of interest in the region include:
- Lundy Island, a Pirates' hideaway in years gone by, now owned by The Landmark Trust. It is well serviced by day trip boats from Ilfracombe
- Clovelly: a world famous fishing village in North Devon, built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff. The cobbled street tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port. It is famous for its donkeys, which traditionally carry goods up the hill; sledges bring things down. There are links with Charles Kingsley, Turner, Dickens and the Spanish Armada.
- National Trust's Arlington Court - a splendid regency house and gardens full of the Chichester's collections. Other properties in the region include Knightshayes and Killerton House.
- Panier Market and Butcher's Row, Barnstaple - a must visit for foodies.
- RHS Rosemoor - 65 acres of both formal and informal gardens - as well as woodland walks, water features and open spaces - there is something for children and adults alike to enjoy time and again.
- Dartington Crystal, Torrington - at the award winning visitor centre you can watch the live demonstration of glassmaking and try the many hands-on activities we have to offer, as well as seeing the museum collection. The shop has lots of tempting goodies.
for everyone and staying at Point View will allow you to be in the centre of it all whilst staying in an iddillic retreat with Spa Tub
A beach that goes on forever, rugged heritage coastline, stunning views, a picking of postcard thatch cottages and at the very hub…a traditional village pub.
Nestling in the rolling hills of the Devonshire Golden Coast, sits the picturesque village of Croyde. With miles of sandy beaches, magnificent scenic walks and home to some of the best surf in Europe, Croyde is an extremely popular holiday destination for people of all ages.
This idyllic haven offers everything a family should need from General Store and Post Office, to Croyde's heavenly Ice Cream Parlour and not to mention the famous pub of 25 years 'The Thatch', with it's delicious food and great live entertainment.
Croyde is set in the middle of the 'Devon Gold Coast', so called because of the miles of beautiful beaches at Croyde Bay, Saunton, Woolacombe and Putsborough. Whether surfing, walking, cycling or relaxing is on the agenda, Croyde is a hive of activity during the summer, and a wonderful tranquil retreat during the winter.

"Fantastic apartment in a lovely location"
Booked this apartment for a short getaway for my wife and it proved to be an excellent choice. Apartment was stylishly furnished and well equipped throughout, with a large main bedroom, lovely bathrooms and a really nice open plan living/cooking/dining area which opened on to a courtyard with outdoor seating and a hot tub.
Location is about two minutes walk from the nearest beach and five minutes from the village centre, where there is a pub, shops and a couple of restaurants. Croyde may be a bit on the small side if you're after excitement, but for a relaxing break it was perfect.
Overall I'd really recommend this property to anyone looking for somewhere that little bit special to stay whilst exploring the North Devon coast.
