The West Country / Devon region
The Beaches of Croyde, Putsborough, Saunton & Woolacombe are all within easy reach. Croyde beach is only a 10 minute walk from Croyde Shores. All four beaches have the European Blue Flag award with local life guards patrolling.
On the north coast is the very picturesque villages of Lynton & Lynmouth. In Lynmouth there is a harbour, Cliff Railway, Rhenish Tower, boats and challenging surf. You can even fish for salmon and trout. There is a good selection of shops & restaurants
The tiny fishing village of Clovelly is a lovely cobbled fishing village which is secluded, but easy to find. The village is traffic free and the main street, known very simply as 'up-a-long' and 'down-a-long', tumbles its cobbled way down 400ft of solid rock to the tiny harbour and lifeboat station, both protected by an ancient stone breakwater. It is a descent past flower-strewn cottages, broken only by tempting little passageways and tiny winding lanes that lead off to either side and offer the prospect of discovering even more peaceful, picturesque treasures of Clovelly.
Breathtaking coastal scenery and fantastic walks can be found at Hartland Quay. There is a slipway leading to a sandy and rocky beach that is ideal for families, where you can swim in the sea, fish in the rock pools or just lie there and enjoy the sunshine. The Quay beach is safe for bathing and there are numerous exciting coves within walking and motoring distance.
The charming seaside village of Woolacombe with its three-mile long stretch of golden sand has won both the blue flag and Premier Seaside Beach awards for its cleanliness, water quality and facilities. Life guards ensure safe family swimming during the summer and surfers come from all over the country to enjoy the great waves and clean water. Woolacombe is a lively village with a variety of great pubs, restaurants and shops.
The elegant Victorian fishing town of Ilfracombe has lots to do and see Ilfracombe is a stunning coastal town with white washed houses, grand Victorian villas and terraces which climb over the Wilder Valley from its dramatic coastal scenery. It is a resort that also has a contemporary edge from its top class restaurants and galleries, to its theatre and night life. In summer the streets and promenade are alive with the colour from magnificent floral displays. The many pubs, restaurants and shops that surround the quay create a friendly continental atmosphere. It is from the harbour that boats leave to the magical Lundy Island.
Fun for all the family at The Milky Way Adventure Park. With adventure, live entertainment, education and even an alien encounter, it's a great day out for the whole family whatever the weather! The North Devon Bird of prey centre is one of the best examples in the UK
Come and experience our fun packed timetable at The Big Sheep which enables you to get close to the animals, from bottle-feeding the lambs to feeding friendly sheep. As a working farm you will get to see dog trials, duck trials and sheep shearing, and watch the world famous sheep race, complete with jockey! As well as pony rides there is also a horse-whispering show. 'Ewetopia' is a premier indoor playzone to take the biggest of kids - even dads! Special playzones for Under 5’s and under 2’s.
Squash, badminton, bowls, gym and various other activities are available at the North Devon Leisure Centre in Barnstaple.
Good Fishing can be had all around the coast of North Devon but particularly at Croyde, Ilfracombe, Fremington Quay, Bideford & Morte Point.
There is a four screen Cinema in Barnstaple showing all the latest films.
If it’s a night out at the Theatre that you want then go no further than Queens Theatre in Barnstaple or the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe.
Enjoy all the thrills, excitement and drama of kart racing at The North Devon Karting Centre on the outskirts of Barnstaple.
The Croyde area
Croyde in North Devon which is a magical place, steeped in old-world charm and a delightful coastal community of colour-washed thatched cottages with a beautiful sandy bay. The wide sheltered bay, with its long broad sweep of golden sands offers safe bathing and excellent surfing. The beach is privately owned and well kept, is patrolled by lifeguards between May and September and has the prestigious Seaside Award. The adjoining National Trust land at Baggy Point provides delightful walking with excellent views. Cycling, horse riding, golf and tennis are all available locally. There is a variety of pubs and restaurants all providing extensive menus, and several cafes to indulge yourself with a Devon cream tea.
In Croyde there are a variety of restaurants and pubs which all serve excellent food & drink. The best known are The Thatch, Billy Buds & The Manor which are all very family friendly. Billy Budds and The Manor both have children’s play areas. For a little more sophistication, maybe a special treat or occasion, both the Kittywell & Whiteleaf will not disappoint. We had a lovely week staying in Croyde Shores during March 2013. The apartment was very private, well maintained and clean with a separate entrance so that we could come and go as we pleased throughout the day. There was good parking for a car and the walk to the pubs and restaurants of Croyde only took a few minutes which was very convenient at the end of a long day! We spent most of our time at Saunton Sands beach which is more suited to our level of surfing, which was only a 5 minutes drive away. However from the apartment there are also a few scenic short walks to Croyde beach which only took 10 minutes passing some lovely tea rooms serving very indulgent cream teas. We thought the apartment was excellent value and would definitely recommend staying there to other holiday makers. |
