The West Country region

North Devon is one of the most beautiful areas of the British Isles. It boasts miles of unspoilt and award winning beaches. The coastline is one of the most popular surfing venues in the country, with Croyde being the most popular.

The coastline is as rugged as it is beautiful dotted with magnificent cliffs, tiny cove and picturesque harbours. It was once the haunt of smugglers, pirates and wreckers and the fascinating history is retold in many small museums along the coast. Today visitors who love Henry Williamson's famous Tarka the Otter can retrace Tarka's journey by following the Tarka Trail.

Along the coastline surrounding a natural harbour is Ilfracombe with its Victorian architecture, Esplanade and famous Tunnels Beach. The harbour is always busy with fishing boats sailing in and out together with the paddle steamer Balmoral which offers day trips to Lundy Island. North Devon has something to offer and appeal to everyone.

There are activities available for all ages. For children there are fun attractions such as 'The Big Sheep' and 'Dinosaur World'. For the sports fan, there is golf, horse riding, cycling, surfing, kayaking, rock climbing and many other activities all within a 40 minute drive from Barnstaple, the region's major town.

Looking for a North Devon Holiday Cottage or Self Catering Holidays in Devon then you are at the right place!

Within walking distance of Croyde beach enjoy its ice cream shop, gourmet restaurants, superb village pubs, surf shops, and art gallery. This classic 'chocolate-box' village is steeped in old-world charm and echoes the feeling of life in Britain in times gone by. Coastal and Countryside walks include the majestic Croyde cliff path to Baggy Point, (and for those energetic), to Woolacombe and beyond.

CYCLE TO - A day at historic Braunton Burrows is great. Cyclists can enjoy the 30-mile Tarka Trail or South West coast path tracking the scenic coastline of North Devon.

"Compared to other properties in Croyde, excellent value for money"

We were a party of 2 families, comprising of 4 adults and 4 kids aged 7 - 12 yrs. After a 5 hour stint on the M5, we were over the moon with this property. It was clean, very well equipped, functional and very well situated. The photgraphs of the downstairs of the property on the web site do not do it justice. This is the home of a young family who reside there during the out of season months. The kids loved sharing the downstair bedroom with 2 x bunkbeds. The lounge and the dining room easily coped with the 8 of us. The property has a really useful utility type room off the garage, which was brilliant when we came off the beach to shower and hang up the wet suits. The only disappoinment was the upstairs shower wasnt very good (but the one in the utility was fine) and I would recommend you take an extra pillow as only 1 per person is provided - so no real problems whatsoever. We did also notice that on Friday and Saturday nights, we had to shut the bedroom windows as there was a bit of noise along the road outside, with people returning from the village having had a few ciders!! but we've all done that. The property is in short walking distance to the beach, horseriding (which was very reasonably priced - £30 for 1 hour ride) and the pretty village of Croyde. All 3 pubs are fine to eat and drink in and there is one posh nosh place called Hobbs, which was ok. Loads of surf shops! but we found that if you needed any extras, the Salt Rock factory outlet in Braunton was better value for money - its by Tescos (which to be honest isnt that good!). We hired bikes in Braunton one day to cycle the Tarka Trail - but to be honest, having previously cycled it from Bideford, the Bideford route is by far superior to the Braunton route. We spent a day at The Big Sheep, which was ace, but I think kids of teenage years would not find it very exciting. Everybody raved about a pub called The Rock in Georgeham, so we expected good things as we struggled to book for a meal - it was ok, the food was nice, but the portions were small for the prices charged. Our friends went to Squires in Braunton for a fish n chip meal, and thought that was superb. Croyde beach is brilliant if you like bodyboarding/surfing, but there are plenty of other nice beaches nearby - but you do have to pay for parking average of £5 per day - but if you are National Trust members, there are a couple of their carparks yopu can use for free.

Choice Cottages are very happy you enjoyed your stay at MOORCOT (Croyde) and will pass your comments to the owner. We hope to see you soon for your next Holiday in North Devon.
