The award winning beaches of Croyde, Putsborough, Saunton and Woolacombe are all within easy reach. Croyde beach is within 5 minutes walk of Sea Dunes.
On the north coast are the very picturesque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth. In Lynmouth there is a harbour and cliff railway, salmon and trout fishing and a great choice of shops and restaurants.
The tiny, secluded fishing village of Clovelly is easy to find, with its wonderful old cobbled, traffic free streets that descend 400 feet to the harbour, protected by an ancient stone breakwater. It is a tranquil and picturesque haven of small cottages and tiny winding lanes that promise to reveal even more hidden treasures.
Breathtaking coastal scenery and fantastic walks can be found at Hartland Quay. It is great for families with rock pools to explore, swimming in the sea or simply to lie on the sand and enjoy the sunshine.
The famous village of Woolacombe with its three mile long beach of golden sand which has won numerous awards for cleanliness, water quality and facilities, is only a short drive away.
A short distance to the north is Ilfracombe, which contrasts its Victorian fishing village origins with its modern galleries and top class restaurants. It also boasts a vibrant nightlife from theatres to pubs and clubs. Boats from the harbour take visitors over to the magical Lundy Island.
For fun and all weather family entertainment this area is fantastic.
The Milky Way Adventure Park is located on the A39 near Clovelly. It boasts all weather entertainment, Devon's biggest Roller Coaster and fantastic live shows.
The Big Sheep is also on the A39 Atlantic Highway, near Bideford. This attraction has something for everyone - rides, shows, bottle feeding lambs, an indoor play zone and an outdoor combat zone. There are dog trials, duck trials and sheep shearing. There are even sheep races complete with jockeys - such as Woolie Carson. If it all becomes too much, you could always retire to the on site brewery !!
The Wildlife and Dinosaur Park at Combe Martin is also a favourite with children. It features dinosaur and sea lion shows as well as bird displays. There is the Earthquake Canyon ride, Tomb of the Pharoahs and an Into the Light show. Animals include many species from lions and wolves to meerkats and Lemurs - some of which are available for close encounters !!
Barnstaple has a variety of activities including theatres, a four screen cinema, a ten pin bowling alley and squash, badminton and bowls at the North Devon Leisure Centre.
You can also enjoy the thrills and excitement of kart racing at the North Devon Karting Centre on the outskirts of Barnstaple.
A selection of leaflets for attractions in the area will be left in the bungalow for you to plan your trips at your leisure.
The Croyde / Braunton area
Croyde in North Devon is a 'chocolate box' village of delightful white washed, thatched cottages, situated by a beautiful sandy bay, which is renouned throughout the UK for the quality of its surfing.
The wide, sheltered bay, with its golden sandy beach offers both excellent surfing and safe family bathing. The beach is very well kept and is patrolled by lifeguards between the months of May and September, when many families return year after year because of the facilities available.
The headland of Baggy Point provides great walking and stunning scenery. Cycling, horse riding, golf and tennis are all available locally, as are pubs, cafes and restaurants catering for everything from indulgent Devon cream teas to three course dinners.
You can get excellent food and drink in Croyde at The Thatch, The Manor or Billy Budds. The latter two have children's play areas. For more sophisticated dining, either the Kittywell and Whiteleaf would be a great choice.
In nearby Georgeham either The Rock or The Kings Arms are both popular with families for places to eat.
There is a takeaway on the Ruda Holiday Park site and also Bay View Farm in the village serves Fish & Chips or you could venture into Braunton which has a variety of Indian, Chinese and English takeaways and restaurants.
There are two indoor swimming pools. The Cascades pool is on the Ruda Holiday Park and is a fun pool with slides and an area for younger children. The other pool is an Olympic size pool for more traditional swimming, at Barnstaple Leisure Centre.
Golf is very popular locally. There are two 18 hole links courses at Saunton, which is only a couple of miles away, with further courses at Ilfracombe, Westward Ho and Portmore, which is just outside Barnstaple.
A short walk from Sea Dunes, there is a Tennis court at 'Upover' which is open to the public. Other courts are available at the Tennis Centre in Barnstaple.
For those who enjoy horse riding, 'Roylands Riding Stables' are only two minutes walk down the road.

The house was in one word perfect. It was extremely well located (10 min walk with board to the waters edge at Croyde) and 5min walk to the pub. Large external surf specific storage outhouse for all wetsuits and boards. Lovely outoor space to sit in the sun. And inside was hugely spacious, yet very felt cosy. As the weather was fairly bitter, we were happy to laze on the couches watching films whilst sipping wine. Every night we accomodated 3 extras friends for dinner so there would be big family dinner for 11 around a lovely wooden table. The kitchen, aptly stocked with all cooking utensils to fire out all sorts of wonderful cuisine. Beds, and bathroom were comfortable and all you needed. It's just a shame we couldn't stay longer, and look forward to coming back when the sun is really out! Awesome. Response: Great to hear that you had such a good time at Sea Dunes. Many thanks for your review. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. |

As the title says this is a really great spacious bungalow, in a ideal location for the beach or the town, both in easy walking distance. The property is very clean and well presented with everything inside you could possibly need for a home from home. Response: Many thanks for your kind words and we look forward to seeing you again. |

The booking process was straightforward and efficient. The property was clean and well equiped and as descibed on the web site. The Tesco store in Braunton is convenient for more major shopping and supplements the local village shops. Pubs in Croyde and Georgeham are all good and cover the range from gastro-pub to family eating. If there are kids in the party the Big Sheep and Watermouth Castle are recommended. If exercise is needed, walk round Baggy Point to Woolacombe and back - terrific scenery. Response: Many thanks for you kind review. we hope to see you again in the future. |
