The West Country region
South West England is a beautiful area to visit with the stunning Moors to the North and East and South, with Stunning coastlines rocky crags and sandy surf beaches. Many lovely walks and existing water sports await.
The coastline is as rugged as it is beautiful dotted with magnificent cliffs, tiny cove and picturesque harbours. It was once the haunt of smugglers, pirates and wreckers and the fascinating history is retold in many small museums along the coast. Today visitors who love Henry Williamson's famous Tarka the Otter can retrace Tarka's journey by following the Tarka Trail.
Along the coastline surrounding a natural harbour is Ilfracombe with its Victorian architecture, Esplanade and famous Tunnels Beach. The harbour is always busy with fishing boats sailing in and out together with the paddle steamer Balmoral which offers day trips to Lundy Island. North Devon has something to offer and appeal to everyone.
There are activities available for all ages. For children there are fun attractions such as 'The Big Sheep' and 'Dinosaur World'. For the sports fan, there is golf, horse riding, cycling, surfing, kayaking, rock climbing and many other activities all within a 40 minute drive from Barnstaple, the region's major town.
Croyde is my favourite place on this coast. Cute and compact village with a lovely feel to it. Walk through the country paths and pine trees and dunes to the beach which boast some of the best surfing in the South West. Venture round the headland to Saunton sands beach for more of a long boarders wave or North to Woolacombe. Beautiful walks on the headlands accessable direct from the house as is the beach & village pubs. Walk into Croyde village to sample one of the three pubs or take a coffee down by the stream at the cafe. Horse riding available in Croyde village. Golf course is 5 minutes drive away.
Take a trip to the owner's art studio, Pete Caswell, at Braunton nearby to view some of his stunning colorful paintings or see them at the local galleries.
Cascades fun pool with a feature flume is just a 10 minute walk away across the dunes. Saunton sands, south of Croyde, backed by the Burrows nature reserve and famous Saunton golf club. Inland is the village of Braunton offering good shops, pubs and restaurants, museum & tourist office. The Tarka cycle trail begins in Braunton and stretches as far as Torrington.
Villages such as Lynton & Lynmouth are also a short drive away with walkers' paradise, the famous Watersmeet. Lorna Doone is located in an extremely desirable position on Moor Lane only 2 minutes stroll from the beach and a short walk from the quaint and picturesque village of Croyde with its character thatched pubs and restaurants. Croyde itself boasts village stores, a post office, tearooms and surf shops. There is a wooden adventure park for older children and swings for the younger ones. Tennis is available in the village. For those who enjoy fishing, a visit to Ilfracombe Harbour is essential.

"Brilliant time had by all"
The house was really good everything we could have asked for and more.. The Children 14 and 15 were able to go to the beach and the village alone. We love cooking and the house had all the utensils we needed. beds very comfy.
I am being picky but a tumble dryer and larger bath towels would have made it perfect. the flowers and welcome pack were really appreciated - Thanks Pete

"Clean, attractive house 5 mins walk from beach."
This was a very clean, well presented holiday house with all facilities we could ask for.
The bedrooms and bathroom were very clean and all furnishing are in excellent condition.
The house is relatively new and well kept on a pleasant estate.
The beach is about 5 to 10 minute walk away.
The back garden was small but very well kept and layed out and of course you are here for the beach!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - shame we couldn't have stayed longer.
The owner was very friendly and did not impinge.
There were provisions in the fridge and several vases of fresh flowers on arrival which was a lovely touch.
All in all we can wholeheartedly recommend.
