The East Anglia region

East Anglia is a quiet, rural part of England. The main city is the historic city of Norwich, with it's mediaeval streets and cathedral. The south of the region is flat and home to the beautiful Norfolk Broads, a region of rivers and small lakes (Broads), best explored by boat. Great Yarmouth is the biggest seaside town, with theatres, amusements, piers and other traditional seaside attractions, while the resorts of North Norfolk tend to be quieter. Cromer in particular has retained it's Victorian charm, with it's pier, promenade and sandy beach. Cromer and it's surroundings are famous for crabs and lobsters which can be bought throughout the holiday season. North Norfolk is more hilly than the South, with rollin countryside, heathland and sandy cliffs. To the East of Sheringham, the coast is lined with salt marshes and shallow harbours, which harbour waterfowl and seals. The coast curves round towards the resort of Hunstanton, on the wash, and the port of King's Lynn. There are many historic houses in the region and many large mediaeval churches. Cromer Parish Church has the tallest church tower in the region, the Queen has her holiday retreat at Sandringham. near King's Lynn, while there are significant early Norman castles at Castle Rising and Castle Acre. East Anglia is a unique of rural lanscapes, waterways, beaches, wetlands and historic towns and buildings.
