It is the perfect place to find peace and relaxation, where time stands still and the manners and friendliness of the people belong to a bygone age. Outside is a lovely courtyard garden where Bailey's Barn has its own screened table and chairs. Barbecue available and table tennis in the shared open barn that forms one side of the old farmyard. Lovely walks into open countryside from your front door. Dog paradise! Also adored by human walkers, cyclists and naturalists. Bats, barn owls, hares and deer are common sights. Just half a mile away is the Saracen's Head an ancient inn offering fabulous gourmet food. Two further pubs are in Aldborough, a mile and a half away across the fields, where you can sit with your pint and watch cricket on the village green.
Other walks from your front door take you out across the field to Wolterton and Mannington Halls the homes of the Walpole family, or to the nearby National Trust properties, across the River Bure to Blickling (the birth place of Anne Boleyn) or north along the Weavers' Way to the lovely Felbrigg. Just 20 miles south is the medieval cathedral city of Norwich, a UK top ten shopping destination and with a thriving social and arts scene. Six miles to the north is the beautiful north Norfolk coast and it is a similar distance to the Broads National Park in the east. Discover all that Nelson's county has to offer!
If Baileys appears on the availability calendar to be booked for the dates you want, please get in touch with us anyway as we will sometimes let our larger barns to couples for the same price as Bailey's.
The East Anglia region
East Anglia is the driest and sunniest part of England and Norfolk is its most beautiful county. Norfolk has 80 miles of coastline which includes the natural wildernesses of Scolt Head and Blakeney Point teeming with bird life and seals, fabulous sandy beaches with safe swimming (Holkham, Sea Palling, Overstrand to name but a few), sleepy Victorian resorts like Mundesley, Sheringham and Cromer, and the garish "kiss me quick" excitement of Great Yarmouth. History is all around you from Nelson's birthplace in Burnham Overy to the great medieval city of Norwich with dozens of museums, castles and country houses in between.
"Nothing happens in Wickmere, and that's the way we like it" - if you want excitement, noise, activity and nightlife this is not the place for you! Having said that this is a wonderful area for families with many tourist attractions from the award winning Bewilderwood to the traditional end of the pier show in Cromer. And if you are simply looking for dig and paddle there is nowhere better in the country. Of course if you want a taste of nightlife, Norwich, 20 miles to the south, offers everything you could want.
