The East Anglia region

West Runton is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful north Norfolk coast, woodlands, market towns and villages. This pretty village is situated between the coast on one side and acres of National Trust woodland on the other – there are marked paths to allow you to walk to both Sheringham and Cromer. The railway station in the centre of the village runs a service to Norwich (calling at Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads), Sheringham and Cromer.

Cromer

West Runton has many amenities including a very good local (The Village Inn) which is dog friendly. There is also a small supermarket, post office, newsagent and camp shop. The beach at West Runton is a mix of sand and pebble, with superb rock pooling when the tide is out. The railway station in the centre of the village runs a service to Norwich (calling at Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads), Sheringham and Cromer. In Aylmerton, in easy walking distance is the Roman Camp noted for its pretty gardens and good food.

There are expansive sandy beaches with award winning blue flag ones at Cromer and Sheringham. At Holkham and Wells - next - the sea, pine woods edge the sand dunes, historic harbour villages such as Blakeney, Cley -next-the sea, Salthouse, Morston and Brancaster Staithe. To the East there are the villages of Overstrand, Mundesley with further gorgeous beaches.

The seal population at Blakeney Point can be visited by boat from Morston and Blakeney.

A trip on the North Norfolk Railway is a must – not only does it pass through some of Norfolk’s most beautiful countryside but it allows you to explore two of Norfolk’s most popular towns – Sheringham and Holt.

Just through Weybourne is the Muckleborough Collection, which is the UK's largest privately owned working military museum.

About a mile away is the National Trust's Felbrigg Hall with its lovely house, orangery and lakeside walk. Within a twenty minute drive is one of the Trust's flagship properties, Blickling Hall and Sandringham is nearby.

If you're looking for theatres, try the Pavillion Theatre at the end of Cromer pier, famous for it's annual End of the pier summer show. The Little Theatre at Sheringham or the Auden Theatre in Holt or the Theatre Royal in Norwich.

A short drive lies the Norfolk Broads, Britain's finest inland waterway. An extensive network of rivers and shallow broads with small villages can be visited by car but it's best discovered by boat. Day boats can be hired from one of the many boatyards.

"Lovely Little Cottage"

Stayed for 4 nights in late May. Lovely cute, tidy cottage. Quite small but great for what we needed. Great location - out of the way but handy for getting to Cromer and Sheringham. Quiet and peaceful. The only downside for us was that we do not have dogs but we could tell that dogs had been in the cottage - bit of a smell lingering - A plug in air freshener would have been handy - also dog hair on the settee. I understand that people want to take their dogs away with them but i think maybe one cottage could be kept for that. Other than that it was very enjoyable.

"Brilliant cottage, great setting, clean comfortable, great welcome pack"

Bijou but beautiful, well equipped and thought out. Garden setting lovely, close to woodland walking. Short journey to West 'Runton. Great place for a couple to have some peace and quiet. Weather not brilliant for us but found plenty to occupy us.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again with better whether.

"Perfect little cottage, in a wonderful setting"

We really enjoyed our long break in Half Moon Cottage. It's in such a wonderful place. There's lots of places to walk nearby, and also easy access to pubs & not far from the sea. It's in a very quiet location, which made it the perfect holiday for us. We would definitely think about staying here again.

"A comfortable place to stay"

This is a lovely little cottage. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed the cake etc provided by the owner. The area is ideal for touring Norfolk and we enjoyed some good walks in the immediate vicinity. Recommended!

"Perfect retreat"

Stayed in Half Moon Cottage from Friday, 31st May till 7th June. A lovely little cottage tucked away down a leafy lane, very peaceful location but handy if you want to explore North Norfolk. The cottage is ideal for a couple who just want
to escape for a week or just a weekend break. The cottage is very clean, and well equipped for everyday needs. It is tastefully decorated throughout. The pub at the top of the Road, Roman Camp Inn, serves good food and for me it was an added bonus with a really good gluten free menu. Also the village of West Runton in the other direction has all you need for your daily needs, and Clementines Café/Bistro which again I can highly recommend for it's gluten free selection. We had a very enjoyable stay and would love to visit again sometime. Just a pity it's a long way to travel as I would definitely do weekend breaks.

"A warm and cosy retreat"

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break at Half Moon Cottage.

There was such a lovely feel about the property,
we felt at home and relaxed straight away.

Nicely tucked away, yet very handy for the coastal routes, this
cottage was well-equipped and presented to a superb standard.

Extremely clean and very inviting, it really was a warm and cosy
retreat from the inclement weather(s) that we experienced.

Plus, of course, the great extra touch of the welcome pack of
essentials, enhanced by the luxury of the home-made cake.

"Excellent Accomodation in a beautiful relaxing area"

Stayed for 4 nights on a last minute break in a 'first time' area for us. Loved the cottage - done to a high standard finish and well equipped despite being relatively small (but cosy for 2)… More
