The East Anglia region

West Runton is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful north Norfolk coast, woodlands, market towns and villages. This pretty village is situated between the coast on one side and acres of National Trust woodland on the other – there are marked paths to allow you to walk to both Sheringham and Cromer. The railway station in the centre of the village runs a service to Norwich (calling at Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads), Sheringham and Cromer.

Cromer

West Runton has many amenities including a very good local (The Village Inn) which is dog friendly. There is also a small supermarket, post office, newsagent and camp shop. The beach at West Runton is a mix of sand and pebble, with superb rock pooling when the tide is out. The railway station in the centre of the village runs a service to Norwich (calling at Wroxham on the Norfolk Broads), Sheringham and Cromer. In Aylmerton, in easy walking distance is the Roman Camp noted for its pretty gardens and good food.

There are expansive sandy beaches with award winning blue flag ones at Cromer and Sheringham. At Holkham and Wells - next - the sea, pine woods edge the sand dunes, historic harbour villages such as Blakeney, Cley -next-the sea, Salthouse, Morston and Brancaster Staithe. To the East there are the villages of Overstrand, Mundesley with further gorgeous beaches.

The seal population at Blakeney Point can be visited by boat from Morston and Blakeney.

A trip on the North Norfolk Railway is a must – not only does it pass through some of Norfolk’s most beautiful countryside but it allows you to explore two of Norfolk’s most popular towns – Sheringham and Holt.

Just through Weybourne is the Muckleborough Collection, which is the UK's largest privately owned working military museum.

About a mile away is the National Trust's Felbrigg Hall with its lovely house, orangery and lakeside walk. Within a twenty minute drive is one of the Trust's flagship properties, Blickling Hall and Sandringham is nearby.

If you're looking for theatres, try the Pavillion Theatre at the end of Cromer pier, famous for it's annual End of the pier summer show. The Little Theatre at Sheringham or the Auden Theatre in Holt or the Theatre Royal in Norwich.

A short drive lies the Norfolk Broads, Britain's finest inland waterway. An extensive network of rivers and shallow broads with small villages can be visited by car but it's best discovered by boat. Day boats can be hired from one of the many boatyards.

"A Magical Week"

We had a most wonderful, relaxing week in Jasmine Cottage - it is such a comfortable and cosy cottage, well furnished, clean and well kept. The welcome pack was lovely, as were the vase of deliciously scented lillies. Although we had no car, we had no trouble organising local taxis to take us to and from the train station and we made the walk from the cottage to both West and East Runton villages/beaches numerous times, either going through the woods, or down Sandy Lane, with a 6 year old with us too. The woodlands around are lovely to explore, as are the beaches and we had a great day out at Hillside Horse Sanctuary in West Runton. Again, not having a car, we were able to use Tesco grocery delivery for our shopping for the week, but otherwise, there are supermarkets in both Cromer and Sheringham, which are about 3 miles away. The trains run hourly from West Runton station, going to either Sheringham (which we plan to explore next time) and to Cromer (which we had a lovely day out to) and through to Norwich, which takes about an hour. The Castle museum in Norwich is well worth a visit. There is lots more we wanted to do and we will definitely be back next year - just waiting to find out school holiday dates and we will be making our booking!

Thank you so much for your lovely review of Jasmine cottage, great you enjoyed the cottage and the area and we hope to see you all again. Best wishes Mark

"FABULOUS LUXURY YET HOMELY RETREAT"

This Cottage is in a fantastic location yet tucked away. It is spacious and warm with a lovely secure garden as we had small dogs with us so were not worried about them getting out and wondering off. The owners although on hand if needed respect the privacy of the holiday makers.
This is the second time we have stayed here and the little things are such a god send when you have travelled. Home baked cake waiting, welcome essentials. Lovely bedding in such a comfortable surrounding.

Would have NO Hesitation in recommending this place to anyone. Norfolk is such a beautiful place to visit and this is a lovely place to stay. Five Stars from us.

Was a pleasure to see you all again and so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. Best Wishes Mark & Juliet.

"Just what we needed"

This was just what we needed - excellent facilities and a home from home; we had a good rest and for Zak (the dog) it was his first holiday. I am sure Zak would love to come back - as we would too!

"Our annual Spring/Summer break."

Jasmine Cottage was probably, if not the best, certainly one of the best holiday homes we have experienced. The only minor whinge concerned the skinny bath and hand towels, had we known the situation we would have taken our own, but this was only a small issue. The location is ideal for touring, walks, beaches, shopping, eating and drinking out. The things we liked best about the cottage were the cleanliness, comfort and privacy. We liked least the towels as stated and the weather. Although it was bitterly cold outside we were very warm and snug inside.

"Very Comfortable 'Home from Home'"

We were lucky enough to enjoy the best weeks weather of the summer so far and consequently didn't spend as much time within the actual cottage itself as we'd expected to.
The directions were clear and on arrival there was a welcome pack with fresh bread and & a delicious home-made cake.
We were impressed with the cleanliness and the quality of the furniture and appliances. We have 9 yr old and 3yr old girls who shared the single room (with a sofa bed mattress on the floor for the little one). A great selection of books, games, DVD's and CD's were available (if the weather had been poor) along with a well equipped Wii - which the kids did make use of!
We cooked in the kitchen 3 nights and also had a BBQ on the patio, so the dishwasher was very useful, as was the wi-fi, which made research on weather/days out much easier.
The location was one of the main reasons for choosing and we weren't disappointed - the beach at West Runton was less than five minutes by car and shops/supermarkets in Cromer are only a little further although a couple of times we decided on longer drives to use the superb beach at Wells (one day incorporating the essential seal boat trip from Morston). Crabbing at Wells or Blakeney is also must with children!
One evening there was no hot water at the cottage but this was rectified very quickly and the only slight negative would be the lack of a proper shower.
All in all a very relaxing break that we would definitely repeat.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We noted your point regarding lack of a shower and are pleased to say that we have now installed a new pump and shower over the bath as in the pictures on the website. Hope to see you again sometime. Best wishes Mark

"Lovely, clean, spacious, well-equipped, dog-friendly cottage in idyllic surroundings."

This was our first trip to Norfolk, and although the weather wasn't brilliant for the first 3 days, it didn't matter so much because Jasmine Cottage was so relaxing and pleasant when we were not out and about. The cottage is very spacious, light and airy, nicely furnished and well-equipped with everything holidaymakers could need. We found the electric Tempur king-sized bed "different" initially, but once we got used to it - blissfully comfortable, and will now think about buying one for our ageing bones!
The welcome pack provided by Mark & Juliet is a very thoughtful gesture, and the lemon cake is definitely to die for.
The sun-trap garden at the back of the cottage was ideal for our dog, Tess, as it would be for any families with young children, and beautiful woodland for walking is literally on the doorstep - the walk through the woods to the beach and then along the beach to Cromer is lovely.
The only minor problem we found was the lack of a proper shower, which we personally feel would make bathing easier for older clients - and would make Jasmine Cottage absolutely perfect. In spite of this, we would happily book this cottage again.

Glad you enjoyed your stay and noted your comment regarding lack of shower and am pleased to say that one has now been installed. Hope to see you again.
