Home description
Dalmore Cottage is a stylish property, furnished with high quality furniture and designer fabrics to provide a very comfortable holiday home.
From its exceptional location at the high point of Crinan Village there are outstanding panoramic views to the West looking out over Jura, Scarba, Mull and the Gulf of Corryvrecken, and to the North across Loch Crinan to Duntrune Castle.
The spacious lounge is bright and airy with windows on two sides. It has a woodburning stove and wooden floor. To the West patio doors lead out onto a balcony area enjoying the exceptional views to Jura, Scarba and Mull, as well as much foreground interest with Crinan Island and the many yachts which frequent Loch Crinan. The lounge and adjacent balcony are ideal for watching the sunsets. There is a large, bright open plan kitchen/dining room, with windows on 3 sides. An oak table provides seating for 6.
The property will sleep six in flexible accommodation. There is a double bedroom with a King size bed, a twin bedroom and a third bedroom which can be used either as a double or a twin. A cot is also available. 2 of the 3 bedrooms enjoy the Loch facing views. There are two bathrooms (one with bath, the other with shower).
A path leads from the edge of the property down some steps to the waterfront at Crinan Harbour, where there is also a small beach. A much more extensive, beautiful sandy beach is to be found at Crinan Ferry, a 5 mile drive. Set in 3/4 acre of ground and located at the end of a no-through road it provides a high degree of seclusion and privacy.

The Highlands region
Crinan is located in Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland, at the southern end of the Highlands region. It is an unspoilt landscape of glens and bays and an area of outstanding natural beauty, abundant with wildlife and an ideal location for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits.
Also widely regarded as the birth place of Scotland, Argyll is rich in history. In the 6th century a tribe of Irish settlers, the "Scots", set up home in Dunadd Fort near Kilmartin, a few miles form Crinan. From this Argyll base, the early Scottish Kings went on to found the nation of Scotland. In Knapdale, south of Lochgilphead, there is more evidence of times past. On the upper reaches of Loch Caolisport lies St Columba’s Cave, traditionally thought to have been used by the famous saint on his 6th Century crusade from Ireland.
Many beautiful islands are within a short fery ride. Mull is the home of Balamory (Tobermory) and has the famous Calgary sands. Gigha “God’s island”, has been described as "like a well tended garden" and is also known as a bird-watchers paradise. Islay is home to some of Scotland’s most sought-after and distinctive malt whisky. The Paps of Jura, visible for miles around, are untamed mountainous terrain.
Crinan area
Crinan is well known as the end of the Crinan Canal, which has been decribed as the "most beautiful short cut in the world." Built by Sir John Rennie, to save sailing boats from the difficult passage around the Mull of Kintyre, and opened in 1801, it runs for nine miles between Ardrishaig and Crinan. Well used even today, the canal passes through wonderful scenery that is especially beautiful around Crinan. Terrific views across the Sound of Jura to the majestic isles of Jura, Scarba and Mull, are on offer at this peaceful spot
Crinan provides the ideal base for outdoor activities exploring this beautiful area of the West Coast of Scotland. Activities on the doorstep include walking, mountainbiking along forest tracks, boat trips, fishing, horse riding, sailing and other watersports, visiting beautiful gardens, as well as taking in the important historic sights of the area.
How to get there
Crinan is located 7 miles form the town of Lochgilphead in the County of Argyll. Most of our visitors will arrive by car (2 hours drive from Glasgow), and a car is certainly an advantage for exploring the wider area. However your if your interests are mostly in walking or cycling in this beautiful location, or just relaxing, it would be quite possible to have an enjoyable holiday without a car.
By public transport, you would probably get a bus from Glasgow to Lochgilphead, then a bus or taxi from Lochgilphead to Crinan. Alternatively you could hire bikes in Lochgilphead.
The nearest major airport is Glasgow, around 85 miles away, which is served by most of the major car hire companies
