St Andrews in Scotland's historic Kingdom of Fife has been much in the news over recent years as it was here that Prince William met his future bride to be – Kate Middleton. Located only five miles from the beautiful architecture of St Andrews is Boarhills Cottage. First built during the late 18th century and nestled within the tranquil hamlet of Boarhills, this charming semi-detached property has two bedrooms and can accommodate up to four guests. Following a sympathetic and thoughtful refurbishment, the cottage now offers good quality holiday accommodation. The property's spacious and enclosed back garden complete with sun house will be of particular appeal to parents of young children. Some properties, for one reason or another, just seem to exude ‘holiday atmosphere' and Boarhills Cottage is no exception. The delightful lounge for example, boasts a feature wood-burning stove set in a stone surround- just perfect for raising the spirits should the weather take a turn for the worst. A pebble beach is within walking distance from the cottage and also close to hand is the award winning Fife Coastal Path, which passes through many of the scenic highlights of this wonderful area.

The Tayside/Perthshire region

This region has a contrasting landscape of lochs, mountains, forests and coastline and it's therefore no coincidence that it's one of the most popular holiday destinations in Scotland. Its popularity is easy to understand when you consider the mouth watering attractions within its boundaries; which include the beautiful Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park in the west and the wonderful forests, mountains and rivers which are characteristic of Tayside and Perthshire to the east. The city of Stirling can also be found in this area, with its rich historical significance in Scottish history and connections to William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. The beautiful and unique coastlines here, both on the west coast and east coast, are ideal holiday destinations. Stretching in the west from Oban in the north down to Strathclyde and the Ayr coast, and in the east the coast extends from Dundee and Angus south the along the Fife coast to Edinburgh.

Crieff

Of course no visit to this area would be complete without a thorough tour of St Andrews. Whilst being a veritable paradise for golfing enthusiasts- the six courses available in the immediate area will not disappoint! – it also has a number of truly stunning buildings, gorgeous beaches and an excellent range of interesting and varied shops. Highly recommended for a visit is the West Sands area, which is the venue for a good number of water sports. The Fife area is well known for its pretty fishing villages and harbours, amazing scenery and superb walking and cycling country. Indeed one does not have to go very far to find a trail of some sort through gorgeous scenery. The Millennium Cycle Way for example, allows exploration of approximately 300 miles of tranquil country roads, waymarked forest tracks and former railway lanes. For a complete change of scene the beautiful Scottish cities of Edinburgh, Stirling and Perth can all be reached within an hour by car.
