Located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with stunning views of nearby Crickhowell and the Black Mountains (including the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain), Merryfields Barn is a new conversion built to high specifications by local craftsmen.
This cosy property is full of character with oak beams and doors, floors of oak and limestone with under-floor heating, a Japanese square bath and a walk-in shower room. There are stunning views of the nearby mountains and River Usk valley from all rooms, including both bedrooms (one double, one twin). The oak kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The property has two sets of oak French Doors which open onto paved patio areas; one has fabulous mountain views over an orchard and the other is completely private, with garden furniture and a barbecue area.

The Powys / Brecon Beacons / Powys region
The Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park region is a hidden gem which tourists in the know keep to themselves. There are canals, rivers, lakes and mountains all around and yet Cardiff, Wales' capital city, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, Bristol, Bath and the beautiful Gower coast are only an hour or so away. For families, there's a mountain railway and cathedral at Brecon (home of the famous jazz festival), a boating lake, climbing centre and outside zip wire course at nearby Llangorse, horse riding stables, several impressive castles, numerous mountain biking routes (around the Brecon Beacons and the renowned Cwmcarn Trail), golf, tennis, hang gliding/paragliding, fishing, caving and some fabulous walking routes.
Crickhowell / Llangattock area
Merryfields Barn is located in a hilltop hamlet of 25 houses and yet the charming and thriving market town of Crickhowell is less than a mile away, with its individual stores, shops, galleries, tennis courts, tourist office and some great restaurants and pubs. Just down the road is a 9-hole golf course and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, with its newly-refurbished paths, narrow boats, kingfishers, bluebells and even a large redwood tree. At the foot of the hill is Llangattock village, with its 13th century church and attractive, narrow streets.
The River Usk is also within walking distance, flowing through the valley bottom and attracting fishermen, canoeists and walkers alike. The area is a haven for bird-watchers, with buzzards and red kites regularly flying over the property, and one of the UK's largest cave systems can be found at the nearby Llangattock escarpment. The area is also well known as a 'foodie capital', with many excellent pubs and restaurants and an annual food festival in Abergavenny, 6 miles away.
How to get there
