About the home

"Ardro" is a 5 star, very spacious, high quality, and cheerful property; ideal for the extended family holiday by the sea, or perhaps you and a few special friends. There is a nursery on the top floor.You can go fishing, swimming, rock pooling (the area is designated a "site of special scientific interest" because of the rich marine life here)or just laze on the beach to recharge your batteries, for walking, castle visiting, train rides, paintballing, riding, go-carting, slate mine visiting....but beware ! you might fall in love with this unspoiled little town with its quality shops, and friendly locals. You might even see dolphin arching through the water as you sip your morning cup of tea in bed.

"Ardro" has recently been refurbished, and has quality carpets and curtains. The master bedroom has a Super-King bed. The other double bed is a standard double. The master bedroom, lounge, and dining room all overlook the sea. There is a twin bedroom on the ground floor, where there is also a spacious WC and hand basin.The property has two staircases. A modern kitchen with island and 4 tall stools is very well fitted with all modern appliances. The large utility room is ideal for bikes, or walking gear .The courtyard at the rear is a safe area for children and dogs, where you can sit outside.

Parking opposite the property is almost always possible in the public car park opposite the property. Failing this there is space usually on the back lane by the courtyard gate.Fishing permits can be obtained from the Tourist office in Porthmadog. The beach is only yards away, and Criccieth Castle is approx 5 minutes walk away.Playground, bowls, minature golf course, are 5 minutes walk away, behind the property. The nearest bar is the public bar of the Marine Hotel, which is about 60 paces up the road! This is a very friendly meeting place.

The High Street (greengrocer, baker, supermarket , restaurants, post office, delicatessen, bank etc) is about 10-15 mins walk.

This property suits family groups or similar. It is not appropriate for large same sex parties of young people.
An extra charge of £5 per day is made for additional thorough cleaning, and we ask that dogs remain downstairs at all times.(There is a stairgate)
Towels and linen are provided.
20% of the cost of the holiday is sought at the point of booking, and the balance is invoiced one month prior to the start of the holiday.
Windows at the front, on the first and second floors have safety catches to prevent children suffering accidents.

Conditions

The property is on a bend in the road, that is also on an incline. It covers three floors. There is a WC and basin on the ground floor, and a twin bedroom on the ground floor. Please note however, that the lounge and TV are on the middle floor.
For young families, note that the nursery is on the top floor, adjacent to the master bedroom. The house is very well equipped for babies and young children. There are stairgates, baby monitor, night lights, baby bath, toddler bath seat, high chair, travel cot, potties,bedding and toys.

The North Wales / Snowdonia/Gwynedd region

Criccieth sits at the beginning of the Llyn Peninsula, the property faces south.It has a mild climate, but is only 10 km from Snowdonia, where the climate is typically that of a mountainous area.There are a number of castles worth visiting, Harlech , Criccieth, and Caernarfon, where Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales.North Wales is rich in minerals. You can see from the multi-coloured pebbles and gravel on the beach, just how varied the rocks are here. Mining of copper, coal, tin, slate, and granite has provided income for families in Wales over the centuries. You can visit copper and slate mines in the area. (Copper mine in Beddgelert, and slate mine in Blaenau Festiniog)

Pwllheli, a port only a few km. away will be hosting some of the UK Olympic sailing trials / events.

The Criccieth area

Criccieth and especially Pwllheli attract sailing enthusiasts. If you like golfing, Harlech has a course, but Criccieth can offer two minature courses! Rock Climbing can be done in Prenteg, near Tremadog, only 10 minutes drive away.
For children there is a petting farm in Llanystymdwy, the next small town to Criccieth. There is horse riding in the area.
Criccieth has always done well in the Wales in Bloom / Britain in Bloom competition. The High Street and central area of the town therefore always look spectacular in summer.

Take the A55 to Bangor, then the A487 via Bryncir , after which you take a right turn to Criccieth. The property is close to the castle. Pass the entrance to the castle (on your left) and go down hill past The Marine Hotel on your right. You will see a picnic viewing point on your left, at the end of the parking area. "Ardro" is opposite .

Increasing numbers of our guests are returning, and we have appreciated very positive feedback from them. Most saying how they love the house, the area, and how relaxing Criccieth is. This year, a number of visitors have said how the house and area suits guests of all ages, and to prove this, they have started to enter their ages in our visitors book! Many say that it feels more like a home than a holiday let.

When a guest contacts us to say that they wish to make a booking, a booking form is sent out to them, and a 20% deposit is requested with the return of that form. The balance is invoiced one month prior to the holiday, and payment (by cheque) is requested 2 weeks prior to the first day of the holiday.

Receipts are sent following all payments.We accept Sterling, US Dollar,and Euro cheques. For other guests that live abroad, we can give you details for bank transfer of money.

Changeover day is Saturday.

Our season ends at the end of October for painting , maintenance,and checking all rooms etc . We are now taking bookings for 2012. (The season re-starts in April .) Please book early so as not to be disappointed.
