The Northumberland region
Ellington is a quiet rural village on the coast of Northumberland, 20 miles north of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The village has a first school, a nature reserve, a library, a shop and a pub -the Plough Inn.
Ellington is a friendly coastal village, just outside of the beautiful seaside village of Cresswell. Cresswell is a quiet pretty little village with a community of about 200 residents on the North Sea Coast. It's a very popular birdwatching area, with Cresswell pond and bird hide nearby, attracting an adundance of rare birds. The village has an ice-cream shop, a café 'The Drift Cafe' and a beautiful Church. It's also very popular with walkers, families and dog lovers due to the vast sandy beach. It's a very peaceful area but within easy reach of all the attractions that Northumberland has to offer.
Northumberland is an area of oustanding natural beauty.
Northumberland has more than 150 attractions for you to visit, ranging from castles and historic sites including Hadrian's Wall, gardens and stately homes, museums, and plenty of places to visit along the coast and in the countryside.
Here in Northumberland we are particularly proud of our vast, unspoilt beaches as they are undoubtedly some of the finest in the UK. Northumberland has some of the cleanest beaches in England and every major beach has been passed by the Environment Agency for the cleanliness of its water.
