Penlyn is a very well presented Grade II listed four bedroom thatched house on two floors in the centre of the picturesque village of Crantock. Penlyn is a very comfortable family holiday home in a simple contemporary style but in sympathy with its age and location. Penlyn is an ideal cottage for a traditional family holiday or for couples wanting a cute romantic cottage for a Cornish holiday.

It has all the traditional features of a thatched cottage, beamed ceilings downstairs, inglenook fireplace, cornish ceilings and a wonderful enclosed garden - ideal for keeping the children happy.

Downstairs is fairly open plan but in a cottagey "shabby chic" finish. The beamed sitting room has a huge log burner located in a inglenook fireplace, and is open to the dining area with French doors leading to the sunny large garden. The kitchen to the rear, is galley style with a seating area overlooking the garden. The kitchen is very well equipped and fitted with all modern conveniences.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, two single and two doubles. As upstairs is built into the thatch, there is some restriction to head height into the eaves.

Penlyn has enclosed gardens, one at the front (paved with a bench for seating) and one at the back, where there is a patio with a barbecue. The patio has a table, parasol and ample seating for 6 adults. The beautifully landscaped gardens are private and laid to lawn and shrubs with a paved patio area designed to make the most of the sun in the garden.

There is a lockable gate at the bottom of the garden giving easy access to the Cosy Nook Cafe, ..... also the two local pubs (don't tell anyone!).

There is private parking for two cars.

Crantock Village

Crantock is a picturesque village of historical note, on the North coast of Cornwall with one of the best beaches in the area. It has an ancient church, two pubs a tea rooms, an art gallery, gift shop and a village store.

It is only five miles from Newquay, but a world apart. It is popular with families in the summer and people who wish to surf, walk and enjoy all Cornwall has to offer all year round.

Crantock is the site of an altogether much older settlement - Langurroc, which means the 'dwelling of the monks'. The village gets it name from the Celtic Saint Caranog, who is also known as Carantoc. It is suggested that Crantock was founded by St.Carantacus in the 5th century, who was the son of a Welsh chieftain, and established his church. The present church is reputed to be built upon the same site.

Crantock and Polly Joke beaches

Crantock Beach is a great beach for families and surfers alike. It has a wide sandy beach with sand dunes between the beach and the village. At low tide you can walk along the beach to West Pentire.

Polly Joke beach is the next beach around the coast going west. It has been described as one of the best beaches in Cornwall. It has to be walked to, making it less busy than other beaches in Summer.

Pubs and Eating

Crantock has two pubs, the Cornishman and The Old Albion Inn, which are a short walk from the properties in Crantock Village. The Bowgie Inn, in West Pentire, is a short walk from Cormorant, Guillemot and Kittiwake. In Cubert, 2 miles from Crantock, the Smugglers Den, has a reputation for good food and wine.

Newquay, Shopping and a Big Supermarket

There is a large Safeway supermarket about 5 minutes drive out of the village towards Newquay. Crantock is about 5 miles south of Newquay, which in the summer is a bustling holiday resort with shops, many clubs and pubs. There is a regular bus service to Newquay and taxis can be booked.

In Crantock there is a village store that provides many of a holiday makers essential needs.

Many of our guests use Tesco Online to order their shopping before they leave.

"wow, stunning property and location"

We stayed at Penlyn cottage for two weeks in August.
I can only say good things about it, the house was beautifully presented cosy and homely, we had everything we needed and more, it was very well equiped.
The garden is very pretty and secluded, which was fab as we had a small dog with us.
A fantastic place to stay, close to the stunning Crantok beach.
All in all brilliant, thanks to Lisa who was very helpful, will definately return a real home from home.l
