Barn | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Coiners' Barn is a haven for walkers and lovers of the great outdoors. We offer superior, self contained, self catering accommodation in a spectacular location with panoramic views on the edge of Broadhead Clough Nature Reserve (RSPB reserve) and close to the Pennine and Calderdale Ways.
The Barn has 3 beautiful ensuite rooms with under floor heating along with the luxury of your own huge living / dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Our guests come to us to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life and enjoy the tranquillity, nature and stunning vistas we have to offer. Fancy a real luxury rural retreat? Then come to Coiners' Barn and let us show you how it is done. We are unique that the drive to us is a farm track and accessible by 4 x4 only (1mile) and so Liz will meet you in a safe private car parking where you will be chauffeured in by the host in her 4x4 on arrival and departure and find out some gems of local knowledge, whats on and history. It's a lovely 15 minute stroll if you do fancy it by foot passed lamas, sheep and great for tiring out the kids and the dogs. Bring wellies in wetter months.
We are a bit different to other holiday lets as we like to do things a little bit more personally. I'm Liz and I run the barn. I am a mum of 4, with a love of baking cakes and enjoying the outdoors and so happy to do anything to make your stay just perfect including baking a birthday if you are coming away for a celebration, set up a toy corner for your kids and suggest some family day trips out, take the dog out when I go walking mine if you need a trip out for the day but don't want the dog to sit in the car all day. You let me know and I'll do my best to make this your treat. We also like you to feel at home and so are well stocked with the pantry bits and bobs you'd expect from flour, oils, to salt and pepper, dishwasher tablets, loo rolls, foil, tea, coffee, sugars etc etc. So don't go mad on the shopping and packing before you come.

The Barn has been newly converted and is of a very high standard. Throughout it is geo thermally heated and is very light and cosy. The bedrooms pick up the history of the barn as a key coiners home with a Kings room, Stag room and Weavers room. Downstairs the living space is open plan and split level with its own dining area (seating 8 - 10) as well as sliding doors opening out on to a large decking area which overlooks a beautiful country garden with a small play area (including sand pit, climbing rock and a shared trampoline and wendy house). The patio doors next to the kitchen open onto a BBQ area. We also have an 8 seater outside wooden round table and more graden chairs. The insides tell you more about the history with a Coiners poem, timeline map and a whiteboard to let us know what nature you've seen that day as well as many interesting books and artifacts.

We have secure, private off road parking available 1 mile (20 min) walk away from the barn. Access to the barn is by 4x4 only. We provide a lift service in and out of the property to help you with your bags, shopping etc. During your stay it is only a 20 min, flat walk back to the car park with some enjoyable country views and animals to view along the way. It can get muddy in winter so wellingtons are a good idea.
The Barn itself is a self contained unit. The split level downstairs space has:
- a fully equipped kitchen, including
electric cooker, dishwasher, kitchen island with chopping board, microwave and fridge
- a large dining area
- and a separate WC
On the lower level downstairs is a spacious living room come coiners' exhibition area comprising:
- two large sofas
- sofa bed
- toy box
- games box
- large flat screen television/DVD player.
Upstairs are three ensuite bedrooms and a funky reading bridge: All our rooms feature:
> Free View Television
> Ensuite Bathroom
> Solid wood flooring
> Bath Towels
> Free WIFI
> Complementary Toiletries
> In room temperature controlled underfloor heating (from a ground source heat pump)
The West Yorkshire region
The countryside of Yorkshire has acquired the common nickname of God's Own County.
Pennine Yorkshire encompasses some of the region's most beautiful countryside. From the moorlands of Haworth and Todmorden and the culturally diverse Huddersfield and Halifax to the bustling bohemian towns of Hebden Bridge and Holmfirth, Pennine Yorkshire's distinctive and diverse landscape offers a beautiful and unique destination for short breaks or a romantic getaway.
Coiners' Barn is right in the middle of the Calderdale Way and Pennine Way. With both these walking links on our doorstep we are a perfect spot to stop over for a night or make us a base for visiting the local area.
Walkers are invited to explore Broadhead Clough Nature reserve, at the bottom of the field in front of Coiners' Barn, or visit Stoodley Pike - the monument built to mark the end of the Crimean War (1856) which is less than 2 miles away. Perhaps you are indeed walking the Pennine Way (Britain's first National Trail, opened in 1965) and wish to stop off at Coiners' Barn to rest the night. We also have great maps from Coiners' Barn around Cragg Vale, taking in many of the Coiners' haunts and our own Medieval Spa.
Only an hour's walk away and you can reach Hebden Bridge or Hardcastle Craggs.
Hebden Bridge has been named the community with the most varied and locally distinct high street in the UK. Its unique offering of well over 100 independent shops, galleries and places to eat, make this a great day out from the Barn. Why not get Liz to prepare a picnic for you if you fancy a lunch with a view?
Hardcastle Craggs, owned by the National Trust is a great place to explore 2 miles north east of Hebden (3 miles from Coiners' Barn). This beautiful wooded valley with its deep ravines, tumbling streams and glorious waterfalls. Walk through woodland rich in wildlife with over 25 miles of footpaths and see the striking seasonal changes in the plants and trees. At its heart is Gibson Mill, a former cotton mill and entertainment emporium, now a visitor centre using sustainable energy, where you can discover more about the valley's 200-year history with dressing up and exhibitions. There are also themed walks, and guided tours of Gibson Mill to enjoy. Note: steep paths throughout.
Mytholmroyd Station is our closest rail link. You can be in Leeds or Manchester city centre in around 50 minutes by train, while direct trains to York and Blackpool make family days out easy-peasy with children of all ages.
The market towns of Haworth, Holmfirth and Heptonstall (where King David is buried) are only a short drive away and complemented by museums and attractions across the region that tell the varied history of Pennine Yorkshire through the ages.
