It sits in a typical tiny hamlet, so peaceful you wake up to birdsong and at the end of the day watch the stars come out in a night sky free of light pollution, yet, you are only 3km from local amenities where you can buy your bread for breakfast, shop in the local shop or have a beer in the bar.

Cozes, 6km - the market is held in the historic market place on Wednesday mornings, supermarket and pharmacy etc can also be found here.
At the end of a hot day on the beach or sight seeing, you will return to the peaceful garden, or the cool house for a chilled glass of wine and a relaxed BBQ, while the children run off their last drops of energy in the garden, or go for a walk , bike ride down the lanes.
Taste the pineau made on the local farms and buy local farm produce, tomatoes, melons etc just follow the signs nailed up! sometimes you need to be a bit brave, the lanes to the farm can look as if they go nowhere!

BookThe Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
The region has the second longest hours of annual sunlight after the cote d'Azure, so sunny days may entice you onto the sandy beaches, stretching from the Cote Savage down past Royan, St. Georges de Didonne and Meschers, or to explore the area's rich history.
The Citadel at Blaye, the medieval castle at Nieul-les-Saintes. Also see the fantastic architecture of the châteaux, Churches and Abbeys. There are many Roman archaeological sites to explore.
There are Troglodite dwellings to visit at Meschers with stunning views over the estuary. Here too are fishing huts on stilts, dipping their nets into the estuary for shrimp, beaches to enjoy and restaurants on the little port. The Botanical gardens at St. Andre de Lidon offer you the chance to taste old Cognac and Pineau-des Charentes.
Pretty country an coastal villages are sprinkled with hollyhocks, Talmont is a must, with its famous pilgrim's church, now teetering on the edge of the Gironde estuary as the cliff has been eroded away by the waves.
Congac town offers tours of all the famous names of cognac, trips up the river and a pretty town, a must do!
La Rochelle's harbour is a wonderful sight and a day out here offers pavement lunches and wonderful shopping under cloistered streets.
Local Oyster beds grow this local delicacy, and mussels are the the fast food of the area. Delicious!
Bicycles can be hired and cycle rides are marked on the roads, but there are lots of cycle paths, along the coast through the pine forests and in the towns.
Sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing etc is available on the beaches of Royan, St. Georges De Didonne, and Meschers.
Restaurants, abound in the coastal towns but if you do not want to go that far Le Cottage at Arse is Fantastic,
The bar at St Andre de Lidon is the closest to this property.3km
The countryside round the house and its hamlet is farmland, growing, of course, vinyards, you are remember on the cusp of the Gironde estuary, where so much of France's famous wines are grown. Sunflowers by the field full are a sight not to miss and some grain is grown, this is usually harvested well before the harvest in G.B.
Wine tastings can be found at many of the vinyards in the region.
You will never be stuck with nothing to do or see in the summer staying at this property, alternatively you can chill out on the terrace/garden and sunbath with a glass of your favourite wine.
The Cozes / Montpellier-de-Medillan area
We suggest you call in to the tourist information office in Cozes early in your stay to get up to date lists of markets and local fêtes, bricante sales etc.
Cozes market is held in a historic open market hall on Wednesdays mornings, offering a fabulous choice of fresh local produce.
There are little circuses travelling the area in the summer, which are great for the children, look out for the signs.
Do not miss the fireworks on the beach at Royan for Bastille day 14 July, why not take a picnic?

We fell in love with the property as we walked in the door. Lovely big rooms with a good standard of furnishings and fittings. The property was clean and there was a nice, welcoming bottle of local wine. Outside there was a nice patio area with a large garden for the kids and dog to explore. There was loads to do in the general area. The nearest beach was at Meschers which was a nice, easy twenty minute drive away. The beach itself was nice and clean with a couple of cafes. Other personal favourites were Talmont, Cozes market, Saintes and Saint Palais sur Mer. All in all it was difficult to fault either the property, or the area. Of course in an ideal world the property would have had a pool and/or been nearer the beach, but then that would have been reflected in the price. Overall we had a great holiday, staying in a lovely property. |
