The South Wales region
Only 20 minutes from the cottage the capital city of Wales should require no introduction. It is a thriving 21st century city with everything you would expect from a vibrant cultural centre and more. The most visited town in Wales has recently been recognised by the National Geographic Magazine which ranked Cardiff 6th in its world-wide list of summer destinations.
It is impossible to say how much Cardiff has to offer here, you will just have to go and find out for yourself.
The heritage Coast, Southerndown, Ogmore-by-sea and Porthcawl is a approximately a 10-15 minute drive. Southerndown beach (Dunraven Bay) is a sandy beach which incorporates the old castle of The Earls of Dunraven. Ogmore-by-Sea is famous for its sand dunes and Castle and where the river Ogmore meets the sea. Ogmore is great for little ones to fish in the rock pools. If you like horse riding then you can also pony trek, either on the beach itselft or around the area. Horse riding is managed via Ogmore farm Trekking centre and is suitable for all ages. Porthcawl has a funfair and a small town filled with bars and restaurants and is a popular location for international surfers. For those of you who are fans of the Gavin and Stacy television show then you can visit Barry Island - very popular in the summer with its long beach, fun fairs and kiss me quick shops.
Rose Cottage is is 20 miles from Cardiff City Centre, 3 miles from Bridgend town centre. It is a 30 minute drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park, 45 minute drive to the Gower Peninsula, 40 minutes to the Big Pit and a 10 minute drive to MacArthur Glen shopping centre and M4 motorway (J35). We are also surrounded by numerous sites of local history e.g. castles, fortes, burial mounds etc.
All of the major supermarkets are within a 5 minute drive of the cottage. Note there is a also a Virgin Active Gym within a 5 minute drive.

The cottage is lovely and spacious and Sarah is an outstanding host. She left coffee and the small things that you often forget to buy in the grocery store. The kids had lots of movies to choose from in the evening. The best part, is there is a friendly neighbourhood horse who loves carrots. Kids were gutted to come home :)

"Beautiful, warm, spacious well equipped country cottage perfectly located to explore South Wales"
We, that is two families or four, had a very relaxing week in Rose Cottage which is very spacious and welcoming. Loved the Aga, the open fire, large main room and that it has the annex that the children used to play DVDs and Xbox in while we enjoyed relaxing in the main house! It is situated on the outskirts of Bridgend but feels like the country as it overlooks rolling fields and has Lily the horse right next door. Most of South Wales is easily accessible - we visited The Gower, Cardiff, Big Pit , Swansea as well as the local coastline at Nash Point and Ogmore which was stunning - even in the storms. Bridgend also has a great discount boutique outlet that was useful for some sale shopping (without the crowds). All in all a wonderful week and a wonderful house to stay in - thanks Sarah and Brendan (and thanks also for the champagne on arrival - we did feel very welcome!)
